Makes sense.  The south portion they were trying to sell off as parcels but I dont know how well they did with that.  There are some BIG bucks on that property.  I have seen some toads in there!

"So in your opinion you want public lands to be open only on a limited basis?  In your opinion it would be great for the trophy hunter...what about other taxpaying sportsman who just want to hunt?  What if the WDFW did this on all wildlife areas?  Colockum for instance...it might be better from a hunting standpoint but would limit access.  All I am saying is it is hard enough to find a place to hunt private or public.  I think we should make many of these places open for all users.  I am in it for the hunt that is all I care about."

Yes ~ I do believe that a certain amount of public lands should only be opened on a limited basis. It makes for a certain quality of hunt for those selected to participate that is otherwise much more difficult to obtain (reduced # of hunters, increased animal #'s and size etc.) If the WDFW did this on all lands than that would be another story.....but they don't. If you have any trouble finding places to hunt in this state than you aren't looking very hard. Simple fact. Private land just takes asking, and maybe a few "incentives" and a thank-you at the end of the season and public land is....everywhere. Between the timber companies, and the state holdings, and the wildlife reserves there are millions of acres in this state to hunt.  :twocents:

Huckleberry you are correct in what you say on hunting access...So is 15 hunting permits a fair and equitable number on 6000 acres? I heard that over 2000 hunters put in last year for the same amount of permits.  Why not make this a general permit like the Desert A.  Make it a trophy only unit.  I didn't mean to be pointed towards you personally  huckleberry..I have hunted this general area and it is hard to find public land other than on Mt. Hull itself.  I love hunting whitetails, turkeys and bears in this area.  I just wish it was open like all other WDFW properties they manage.  I heard they wdfw counted over 900 whitetails this last winter in this area.  There are some toads in there.  But You can't hunt the rut (Okanogan East permit) only general seasons.

Yelp ~ I definitely agree with you on the general permit idea. Instead of 2000 people who didn't draw putting in for this hunt you'd probably only have a couple hundred at best. Given all their options you would think they could/would turn this into a rut trophy hunt or move it to later in the year once the bucks move into the winter ranges. I'm not real sure why it's being done the way it is. Maybe it just takes more time to set it up differently???

Mainly muley that I have seen but a few whities as well.  Most the whities I have seen are along the highway.
