Anybody order from the-armory.com?
« on: August 01, 2008, 01:34:25 PM »
I'm considering the biggest single ammo purchase of my life.  Could be a risk since I've never purchased from the-armory.com before.  Have you?  Have you heard bad things?  Here's what I'm looking at:

PMC .223. New manufacture, boxer-primed brass rounds. Should be reloadable: $324 for a case of 1,000 rds
Wolf 7.62x39 S/b new manufacture, but steel cases hence not reloadable.  $190 for a case of 1,000 rds
I was going to get some 5.45x39 but they're out of stock  :'(
Sales tax: $0
S&H for two of each of the above cases of ammo: $143
Grand total: $1,150.

Is there a better deal? Anything I should check before purchasing?  Comments on that ammo? Thanks a bunch.

The PMC .223, IIRC, has crimped primer pockets...so expect to spend some extra time dealing with that when you go to reload.
As common as .223 brass is, I usually just avoid 'em.

The Wolf is good plinking ammo. The price looks decent--it's selling for $4.00-$4.50 per 20 locally. I sold all my x39's just after the Wolf Military Classic came out...but the old black box stuff wasn't too bad. A little dirty, but always reliable for me.

Shipping sure hurts, eh?
I left it better than I found it...did you?

That's why I made sure to put down the fact that I will pay a big fat $0 for sales tax.  On $1,000 of ammo that'd be almost $100 for the Governor of King County to spend.  Part of me would rather give an honest job to a postal carrier instead.

You mean you just buy used shells?  I thought the best way to reload is to use new brass that has only been fired from the weapon you are reloading it for.  I'm not exactly set up to reload just yet so this supply .223 ammo is partly for building a supply so I can reload later down the road.  Thanks for the info.

I have no quams at all about using range pick-ups.
I am selective about brands, and quality...but FREE beats buying ammo just for the brass. Sure, I spend a bit of time on my knees sorting and tossing 40% back...but it's worth it IMHO. It's nothing to find 100+ pieces of Win. brass in only a few minutes at the range.
Clean and resize and you're good to go.

Even then, you can buy 100pieces of brass for around $20, new.
(Cheaper if you watch sales).
