Mystery fungus? + more mountain goats and waterfalls

I had no one to go hiking with me today so decided to go solo today.  I was lucky enough to meet up with cboom and his buddy and we were able to glass up a sow and cub from the road.  Then I went on to complete my hike. 

First of all, I found this strange fungus around 4500 feet elevation in the middle of the woods.  I've never seen anything like it.  Anyone have any idea what it is?



On the way up I spotted something white at the top of the peak.  It was a lone goat making sure she was standing on the tallest point around.  I had to get some video of her frivolity.

While eating my lunch I spotted this billy trying to keep a breeze in his face to stay cool.  His hair is just starting to shed and he was obviously very itchy.  Probably a 3 year old billy with some decent genetics.

Very cool. How do you get that effect with the water so the splash is kind of blurred?

What lens are you using?

Canon 50mm 1.8 with circular polarizer.  The polarizer makes the picture need a longer shutter speed therefore blurring the water.  Of course you need a tripod to keep the camera steady.

Looks kind of like a fungus I found in my yard this morning.  At first I thought some animal puked on my hose, but when I kicked the hose, the spores flew out.  Whatever it is, it formed in a wet spot overnight.

Were you using the DSLR for the goat videos too? What lens were you using on those?

Without seeing it in person, the fungus could be a slime mold?  I have only seen yellow ones though personally.

What do you guys think.  The more I watch the video of that billy the more I think maybe his front right leg was injured.

Nice shots Shane. The Billy does look like he is favoring the right-front leg. Hopefully it is something that will heal quickly.

I was watching a hunting show on TV yesterday and they had footage of two Grizz chasing a mature Billy. It was amazing how fast and far each of them could run. Evidently the Billy survived the chase because the gal with the tag harvested it the next day.

That is beautiful country Shanevg. That would be a tough environment with a bum leg. Looks to be at a bad angle, maybe broken previously and healed poorly?? He can sure get around though.
I'm surprised more of them don't get injured in that terrain.
