Wow those red products are expensive!

You can buy my cannon GL2 for $800 .... takes awesome video for what you want ...If you plan on making commercial video then you need HD ... Which is what I am wanting .....

I looked at the gl2 online, nice camera that looks to be around 2400 brand new. What dont you like about yours?
i like mine ..plus it is in really good shape ... I was thinking of buying a little better one is all ....I have some bear video where the bears are over 300 yrds and they come in really clear ...I need to round up some of my bear footage .... Just I am really tight mouthed on my bear hunting grounds and some locals might figure me out  :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have spent a lot of time researching and using video cameras for hunting.  In my opinion, Panasonic makes some of the best.  I would stay compact and spend $400 - $500 for the sound of what you are going to do with it; you sound similar to myself.  The problem with spending much more than that is the zoom abilities go way down with more in price and that is about the cutoff, it is strange, but the less expensive, smaller video cameras have a much better zoom than the models that are more expensive.  With my Panasonics ( as with the sonys in the same price range) I can zoom in clear from a long distances no prob.  I would also stay compact.

I have a page at my website devoted to the best cameras for hunting that is broke down by price range that has some test footage on it, check it out here: http://www.bestforhunting.com/best-video-camera-for-hunting/.

Also, I am developing an inexpensive product for use with compact  video cameras that you might be interested in.  The people who sign up for my email list on the right hand side bar will be the first ones to hear about it here in a few months.

Im liking that panosonic with the 21 optical and 400 bucks , My canon hf10 is only 12 power optical and could really use that 21.

I actually sold my hf g10 and bought two of those Panasonics (tm90k from last year, but equivalent to this years v700).  It also has a hybrid  zoom to make it over 40X and still clear,  The zoom on the hf1o is worthless unless you are sitting in a stand surrounded by forest.  The video quality is close as well between the two.  The price, zoom, and size make the Panasonic the better buy.

I have the Panasonic HDC-TM700. The HD is a huge improvement over regular format video and this camera has pretty good audio without using remote mics. They cost a few bills though, if you want a good cheaper HD camera, try a cheaper sony HD, they are only $400 to $500, we are using a couple of them as well as the panasonic and you can watch any of the HD video on larger screen TV's.

+1, optical zoom gives a much better product than a digitally enhanced zoom.

Maybe the thread title should be changed to best video camera on a budget because there is no Panasonic camera that compares to the Red cameras. :twocents:

i was watching some elk up bear hunting, got some great video of them at 100yards with the 21x zoom. got right up close and it looked great played back on my TV.

i am having problems with my tripod making noise tho in the video, i couldn't tell when i was using it because i cant hear it but then when i played it back it the camera picked up on the noise every time i moved my camera. gonna grease the whole thing down, but maybe i just need a better tripod.

BTW video taping solo hunts sucks lol, i found out its not going to be as easy as i though and i wont be able to really use it much when I'm doing some serious hunting. but still I'm having fun with it, hopefully buy spring i will have enough to make a good video journal of alot of my hunting and fishing trips.
