Regulation clarification

 This season I plan on hunting archery and I was under the impression that archery hunters could hunt all seasons modern, archery, and muzzle loader. However, while sitting at the lake today watching my daughter play in the water I was reading the big game regs. I am doing this for two reasons obviously I am a hunter and want to make sure I know all the rules that pertain to me. Also, after I graduate with a BA next spring I plan to apply for a position with the game department; and I came across these paragraphs:

 modern firearm hunting method- "you may use modern firearm, archery, or muzzleloader during modern firearm seasons"

Archery hunting method- " Archery only. Archery tag holders can only hunt during archery seasons and must hunt with archery equipment."

Muzzleloader hunting method-Muzzleloader tag holders can only hunt muzzleloader seasons with muzzleloader or archery equipment".

These paragraphs confused me. It sounds like if I buy an archery tag I can only hunt during the archery seasons and if I want to hunt during either the muzzleloader or modern seasons I could do so with a bow; but, I would have to buy the appropriate seasons tag.

Am I reading these correctly or as an archery hunter am I allowed to hunt all seasons with just an archery tag?

You can only hunt for the one tag that you purchased. Archery tag - archery season only
Muzzleloader tag - muzzleloader season only.  Modern firearm tag - modern firearms season only.

Then I was reading the regs correctly. Thank you for the clarification.

It's confusing because you can use a lesser weapon, ie if you have a modern firearm tag you can choose to hunt with a bow during modern firearm. It doesn't mean if you have an archery tag ou can hunt all of them.

I hope I am not one of the dumb people you refer to in your tag line. Some of the questions I post may be dumb to some but I am new to this sport and just want to cover all my bases. I grew up in a family of non-hunters and I grew up without a positive male influence in my life. Now at 28, I find myself a divorced single father of a 6 year old daughter, who has been going to school trying to learn a new trade since being laid off 3 years ago. I lost my unemployment benefits back in November; I turn in at least 3 applications everyday, and can't even land a part time minimum wage job at a fast food joint. I have almost 15 years work experience, a high school diploma, a welding cert, an Associates in Applied Science, and am one year from having a BA in social work/business management. Last season, my first ever, I had my first buck stolen from me. I fell in love with this sport on the first really rainy day of last season and wish to pass the love on to my daughter. I love this sport and the outdoors so much I have decided to pursue a career as a wild life officer after graduation and my daughter is already talking about becoming an officer when she is grown.

Now, please don't get me wrong; I did not take offense to your tag line. I just wanted to fill you, and others on this sight, in as to why I ask so many, of what some may consider, no brainer questions. I do truly appreciate all the help the kind people who frequent this sight have given me over the past year that I have been a member and apologize if the questions I ask are considered dumb. I don't mean to waste your time but i also don't want to be out in the field and make a bone head mistake. Not only for my or my daughters sake but for all hunters. I feel that any hunter who finds a way to get themselves in trouble in the field makes the rest look bad. I DO NOT want to be the person who makes hunters and outdoors men look bad.

Anyone that thinks you make hunters look bad needs a mirror.  Your desire to do the right thing is commendable.  Best of luck to you.

  and though arguments happen on here every so often, people are on here to help, get help, share stories, and the love of the great outdoors.    I've only been apart of this forum for a few years and don't really have a first name basis relationship or know many on here, but I will stay on this site till I'm banned, dead, or the site it no longer available. The people on this forum are good and honest and have just as many questions as you do, if not more. Don't be afraid to ask a "dumb" question and don't take offense to a "dumb" answer. We all here to have fun, learn, and share.

Always remember, "The ONLY dumb question is the one NOT asked."  Keep asking the questions, no matter how much you may think they are a "No Brainer"; someone else has that same question but afraid to ask it.

Those, on this forum, have had that same question at one time or another and it was answered for them.  As a result, they are most happy to pass on the answer, so you can do the same.
