204 late hunt
« on: August 07, 2012, 03:30:19 PM »
I didn't get a chance this year to put in for unit 204 late hunt. I hope to next year. Has anyone else had a chance to hunt the late season in this unit (or other NE units)? If you don't mind, share you experiences and pix. I'm really excited to attempt to hunt mulies this time of year. Thanks

You didn't get a chance to put in for the 204 late hunt, but you're really excited to attempt to hunt muleys this time of year?  I'm confused.  You won't get a chance to hunt muleys late there or in any of the NE units unless you drew one of very very few tags. :dunno:

I've hunted all over in the NE for the past 12 years because I live near the 101, 105, 204 units. I've seem some huge muleys taken out of the 101.

That's a great buck! Ya, I know of some areas in 101. I've hunted 204 my whole life. I've seen some amazing bucks...not usually in october though. We've seen biggins in august, september and November. Kinda why I'm wanting to do the late hunt(s) or I may start bow hunting instead of modern. I can't miss in september. Its not uncommon, in a september weekend, to see 15+ bucks. Some with considerable size. Thanks for the photo.

We've seen some big WT in there. A heavy 7 x 7....I have a match set of real heavy sheds. 6 x 7 with a drop tine. The biggest muley we've seen was well over 200". A huge non-typical in september. Next biggest was right around 200" also in September. (Sizes of course are guesses).

I drew the 204 any buck tag (Nov.1 - Nov. 20) with 13 points finally.  It should be a good hunt.  I don't live far from the unit so I plan on hunting until I find one that is worthy. :tung:

I will post a pic if I don't get too much ground shrinkage and eat a little crow.  I plan on using alot of vacation leave for this hunt.  I have a few leads for the hunt and don't plan on doing alot of pre seasaon scouting due to deer movement and pressure.  I will focus on a big muley unless a whitetail happens by that I cannot pass up.  I plan on putting the camptrailer somewhere on private land near Republic or possibly Waconda.

Meh, shoot whatever pleases you. There are some stud whitey's in the area though!! :chuckle: I'll be looking for one with my bow a few days after your hunt ends.

I usually bow hunt myself.  Just so happen I drew a multiseason tag, so I put in for the rifle hunt.  I may bring the bow along but will not hesitate with using the rifle if the buck of a lifetime is located.

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

The late archery is whitetail only in 204 unless you draw an "any deer" tag.

I wish.. Wouldn't that be sweet.

Any WT from Nov. 21st-Dec 15th is the only general hunt I'm seeing.
