Well crap
« on: August 10, 2012, 10:31:43 PM »
Well after three weeks I was hopeful for my cameras.  Both placed on what appeared to be fairly well used trails.  Lots of various sign in the area.  Same general location as last year where I had quite a few pictures of elk.  When my buddy and I walked up to the first one we noticed the bait block was gone.  Good sign we thought.  Then opened the camera and it wasnt showing how many pictures like it normaly would have.  Thought it was odd but since it's a new camera just thought it was user error.  Then when I took the SD out and put it into my digital camera I realized that there were only 9 pictures on it.   :'(  After looking over the pictures it appears that the fresh batteries that I put into the camera were in fact not fresh.  It got 3 pictures of a deer the day we hung it in which you can see nothing but it's shoulder and butt.  At some point the little wedge behind the camera to hold it pointed at an angle fell out.  Didn't even take a picture when we pulled the card.  There was a small pile of bear crap nearby so I still have hope for this spot with new batteries in it now.
On to the second camera.  Again bait block was gone, but saw a lot of rodent droppings where it used to be.  That's no good.  A total of 6 pictures on the camera.  Including 2 of us walking out when putting it up and checking.  The others were a stupid cow moose.  So needles to say the second camera was moved to a new area.  First camera I swapped the batteries and will give that more time.

Sounds like your cameras should go bear hunting with me.  We perform about the same

Well I think the first one was definetly batteries.  Second was more than likely a bad spot.  I used to think moose were fun to see also.  But unless it's a big bull it really isn't all that exciting to me anymore.  I see them more than I see anything else so it's no fun anymore  :(

Similar deal for me. First cam went dead first night. Second cam (the stealth cam Costco was sellin) only lasted 2 weeks on brand new AA duracells. That was testing in my back acerage at the house. Nothin good on it.  But disappointed in the time it took to go dead.
My old bushnell runs on D batts and it will last months.
I have one more stealth cam over in elk area that has been there for 3 weeks going to get it next week, crossing my fingers.

What kind of camera?

Almost sounds like the camera may be defective. Is there a indicator that shows the battery condition?

It's a 5 mp tasco.  Have the 3 mp also and it has worked for me so far.  When I check the camera in a couple weeks if it isn't working I will scrap it and send it back

actually, yea the indicator shows full for a second then disappears and the red low batt light on the front comes on.
The camera might be bad,

Wish i would have bought at Costco, i ordered it online about a year ago, so i'm stuck with it.  Maybe i'll go buy the costco one then return the bad one  :chuckle: JK
