Public meeting to discuss boat launch at Elk River
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:10:09 AM »
September 11, 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Westport Maritime Museum. There has never been an adequate boat launch in the Elk River area. The legislators from the 19th District put money in the Capital budget to create one. This meeting will be held to discuss the DNR proposal. We need as many people as possible that support access to public lands to attend. DNR staff are hostile to our hunting heritage the anti hunters will be there I'm certain. Blackdog

Can you provide more details/links regarding the proposed boat launch and public meeting?

I can find nothing on the DNR site yet but will share when they post. What else would you like to know?

A good way to get people involved is to make sure they have easy access to the detailed information.  As soon as you can get the links, put them up here.  I couldn't find anything on the DRN site either.  It might be worth a call to them to make sure they post a notice on their web site about the meeting.

Thanks, I've alerted the Washington Waterfowl Association and others and will share a link when available.

There is an old launch site up on the east side about a half mile above the bridge. One of the problems will probley be the group friends of grays harbor a launch would also be by the duckcluba nd they don;t like intruders also it would give people travel into the elk river conservation zone although I would like to see a launch it will be an uphill battle if the friends of grays harbor are not aboard. You might run the proposal to Brady at bradys oysters and get his fellings on the idea.

Duck club actually does allow some public use.  However, they have no parking and to increase parking and use would require major road improvements and seriously big dollars.
Very important that their is a strong showing of hunters.  DNR is not staff with the NR's are not hunter friendly.
One of the biggest concerns should be the lack of information.  Rummer is it will be available next week.
Don't expect a full blown launch.  This will be more of a small boat launch that is a little on the rough side.
