.300 Blackout
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:33:20 AM »
A buddy of mine just built an AR platform with this rouund. I hadn't heard of it before. Interesting round.

Time will tell on this one. I've seen one at the range and it looked like a very functional round. Recoil was very light, accuracy seemed to be very good. I don't know a ton about ballistics on it but I think with the popularity of the AR platform we will see many "new" calibers come and go.

Is this the sub-sonic round?

What makes it neat is you only have to change the barrel on the AR not the whole upper since the case is just cut down from a 5.56/.223. Mags, bolt etc all stay.

It works like a champ. It can be shot super or sub sonic.  Mine has a  CMMG barrel, the rest are parts I had laying around.
It will shot ~1-1.25 MOA with or with out the supressor.
I wouldn't have any problem taking deer sized game to 200 with it and if the shot was to my liking I'd strech it to 300.

It definitely is one of the funner rounds I have played with.  Mine runs 3/4moa at 100yds with subs running the 4x scope on it.   Haven't shot any supersonic yet.

It's essentially a 300 Whisper (300/221 Fireball), although it's not identical. I played with the Whisper in a Contender for a few years and it's a pretty fun caliber. Similar to a 30-30 when you load it super sonic.

I looked at one as well. Had to pick between the 300blk 6.8 and 6.5 Grendel. The Grendel crushed them in numbers. So I built the Grendel up. I agree with the others fine for shorter range lighter game animals. Plus just fun to shoot, but what AR isn't :chuckle:
