Proper restroom etiquette with a concealed weapon
« on: August 30, 2012, 09:50:37 AM »
Haven't seen much information on this for some reason, but it's something most all of us face at one time or another. You get the call of nature, head for the restroom stall, close the door and now you have to deal with the weapon you've got stashed in your special place. If you carry something light in your pocket it usually stays put but if your pants are down, it can fall out. Even a holstered gun can flop around and put yourself, and others, in a less than ideal position. I saw this news story and looked up some information on the subject.

Seems like even the Secret Service has problems with this issue:
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57503016-503544/secret-service-gun-inadvertently-left-in-romney-plane-lavatory/

Here's an instructive news story including a video of a sweet young lady demonstrating the fine art of dropping one's pants and controlling your weapon.
http://www.outdoorhub.com/how-to/video-how-to-carry-a-concealed-pistol-in-public-bathrooms/

I agree that the WORST way to handle the situation is to remove your gun and set it down somewhere. That's a sure-fire way to forget it and could lead to a bunch of headaches and possible legal problems. I manage to keep my Kimber in place with a good holster and careful knee management technique.

I know some of you younger guys like to keep your hands on your weapon every chance you get, but lets keep this topic on firearms only.  :chuckle:

Good topic.  Unless the stall walls extend all the way to the floor, simply ploping down on the ground is unacceptable  :bdid: on at least a.few occasions I've read about "that guy" who makes the news when the neighbor on the next stall reaches over and borrows the firearm.  :bash:

I look to put it on the flat top of the toilet dispenser, loop the belt through it and hang it on the coat rack, wedge it between the handicap rail and the wall, or as a last result, in the ass hat dispenser. I'm pretty dumb but I can't possibly imagine forgetting  my firearm in a restroom.

I have to take mine off. I don't think I've ever come close to forgetting to put it back on, though. That would suck.

My iwb holster has a metal clip that grabs onto my belt. Just pull it to rest on my leg.

really ?
If you have your pants down to your ankles place the weapon in the middle where your johnson goes.
Guaranteed not to forget it or lose it.

When I worked for DOC, there was a corrections officer who was taking an inmate to a hospital appointment who left her loaded H&K .40 in a public restroom in the hospital.  Fortunately it was found by hospital staff and not some young kid or whoever else wanders through hospital ER's (also fortunately, there were no situations that arose during the hospital trip where she might have needed the firearm to secure the inmate).  Point is, if you set it down, there is the possibility of forgetting it.

Oh, and the gal that did that was reassigned as punishment..... to an armed post in the main control room of the facility.   :yike: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

well they make a holster for women for concealed carry its here if you all want to go look

http://flashbangholster.com/

yes the holster attaches to your bra, one of the members here has one and she really likes it  I have never tried one.  I dont concealed carry often except in the woods and either the pistol is in my pocket or its in a shoulder harness so again the belted issue is sort of avoided  :dunno: and I was gonna say if it was one of them tiny guns I could just jam it in the ol cleavage heck the droid phone conceals in there no reason a gun might not, I do however consider the issue of safety and accidental discharge worse thing my phone is gonna do is vibrate or ring  :dunno:

and TMI people you are discussing bathroom etiquette once you cross the threshold to bathroom talk TMI goes out the window  :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
