Left lid off powder
« on: September 21, 2012, 11:15:25 AM »
So, the other day I got distracted during reloading because my scale went out of calibration.  While spending the next hour trying to clear the error message I moved on to something else and then a few days later realized I had left the lid off a container of powder.  Anyone have any experience with this, any changes to the powder's performance?  Already loaded up this years batch of deer/bear ammo, so I don't plan on using it for a similar load.  It was H-1000 if that makes much/any difference.

If it clumps together then you know it got moisture in it for sure.

Shouldn't have any effect as long as it was in a dry environment.

No clumps, thanks.  Still smells really strong.
As for dry...it has been been inside but open windows, outside has been around 50 and foggy the past few days.

Have any silica packs from bottles of pills or similar????  Toss one or two in the powder and close it up for a couple of days... if there is any moisture in there, they will suck it up in no time....

then load a round or two an go see if they shoot... or... take a T spoon full on the concrete and see if it will ignite into cool sparks and stuff,,,
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

It won't make one iota difference.
The powder is fine, just put the lid back on it and store it as is normal.

One thing!  Do you throw powder or weigh? If you throw no difference if you weigh you might need a tenth or two more powder to get the same results, but with 1000 being SSOOO slow that may not come into play at all.
What do you mean smells strong? If it's acrid smelling it done and should be thrown out, a good visual of this is browning of the black powder.

Load it and shoot it or toss the lid back on it and store it.
