I disagree with that 100%.

Not saying you didn't have a bullet "pencil" through a deer at close range, but try shooting that same deer with the same bullet at 500 yards. I guarantee that bullet is not going to expand more than it did with the close shot.

I have been playing around with different loads all summer in my bighorn. I really like the Parker 300 gr. Hydrocons and 130 grains of Pyrodex pellets. I can hold an inch and a half 3 shot group at 100 yards and an 8" group at 200. The Hornady SST 300 gr. with 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets is also shooting very well. Can't tell you how either one perform on an animal yet though.

Hello fellow muzzleloaders: I've been shooting 348 gr. lead Powerbelts for four years now, and am pretty happy with them (except getting lead flakes all over).  However, I've been thinking about trying out the Knight Bloodlines (300 gr.), .50 cal in sabots.  Anybody have the skinny on those bullets?  I've seen a lot of people support the Hornady SST in 300 gr.  Might that be a better option?  Thanks!

I've killed 3 bulls with my knight the last 3 years.  All with 3 triple 7 pellets, and 338 gr powerbelt platinums.  All in the timber, all 30-50 yards, never have to shoot far in the brush.  Took another one with my TC Blackdiamond XR with same powder and 295 gr all lead powerbelt, that one was 75 yards.  Shot placement means more than the bullet you shoot.

Well, I finally got to try the Bloodlines (300 gr. in the red sabot).  And they shoot great!  A bit hard to start down the barrel, but push down smoothly after the first few inches in the bore.
