Son's first deer hunt
« on: September 27, 2012, 10:56:42 AM »
I have finally downloaded the two pics from my phone from Sunday's last day of early archery hunting.

As the subject suggest I took my four (almost five) year old son with me Sunday. I had made it out on several hunts earlier in the season only to come so close. I am learning so much each time I make it out. The only problem was leaving my oldest son at home, when he REALLY wanted to go. I told him if he was good I would take him at some point.

So there it was the last day and I REALLY wanted him to go, lucky me when he was SO ready to go.  :IBCOOL: We got dressed and off we went. On the way up we saw several deer, he was sitting in the front seat with his binoculars checking the hills.  We got to a spot where I knew he could handle walking through the trees and tried to be as quite as possible. :chuckle:

He's a little guy and I knew what to expect. He was loud and had lots of questions. We found lots of sign and neat stuff for him to look at. It was a blast! I wanted to make it fun and we surely accomplished that.

I did not end up filling my tag, but I had the best day of hunting yet!

I am getting ready for my modern spike tag, and also have late season archery to harvest my first animal.

I'm pretty sure he's hooked!

Thanks to all you guys & gals for all the info and stories.

fear no fish!!

Looks like he had fun and you did the right thing by taking him young and not having to high of expectations.  i know a lot of kids that go out with their dad and he gets mad at them for this or that and they have a bad experience and don't want to go back.  You are doing it right and the little guy had a great time by the looks of it.

That's great. I am going to take my 4 y/o daughter with me this coming Monday to go and fill a second deer tag. It should be a slam dunk. She is very excited about it.
I hunt therefore I am.
