Second deer ever, first buck!
« on: September 30, 2012, 08:45:54 PM »
This is my first buck ever and only my second deer.  Both were taken with a bow.  Tracked this guy for several months and finally closed the deal on the last day of early season.  Seems they were already starting to get into the rutting mood.  Raked some bushes and stomped the ground a bit and had him come right on in looking for a fight!  Pretty awesome experience being a newby and all.  Here are some pics.  Pretty good for a black tail in my book.

Way to go Jordon that will make a nice european mount.  are you getting a mount made?  It will be a few years before you drop another that sweet with a bow.  Beauty black tail.

Thanks guys! Couldn't be more proud of this guy. Didn't have a scale but I know he was well over 200 pounds, closer to 250-275 in my honest opinion!!!

Ken I would have loved to do a shoulder mount since as you said getting a black tail that tops this will be a challenge to say the least but can't afford the cost being a student :) I am going to try to do a European mount myself. I bleached my first deers skull last year and it came out well so I'm hoping to do the same with this guy!!!

Awesome buck thats a huge blacktail in my books.
I've heard that peroxide works better then bleach, I bleached a bear skull and it all started crumbling. I'm sure bleach works i probably just didn't dilute it enough. Sorry to thread jack

So you raked some brush and stomped around and he came in looking for a fight?! That's really cool. Did you know he was in the area or were you just pulling out all the stops on the last day? Was he smelling rutty at all
