To all those potential hunters
« on: October 16, 2012, 10:24:47 AM »
To all those potential hunters that I might run into in Eastern WA this year:

If you see me walking a field please do not pull up along a canal road and park your vehicle directly in front of me, even if it is 100 yds away when you see me. I will continue on the course I have set and would feel terrible if a stray pellet ruined your paint job.

For those of you that decided where I am hunting is really where you should have hunted and are rushing to correct your mistake, I assure you that my dog and I are completely capable of killing our own birds. Not that I don't appreciate you trying to help by cutting 60 yards in front of me, but really...I got this. Thanks.

Finally, to those of you whose dog "just wants to say hi"  :hello: my dog says "hi" too but lets skip the in field meeting this year.

my dog just won't say "Hi" ... he will hump your dog so hard it will limp for a week. :hello:

The point behind the sarcasm was supposed to be aimed at those the don't have common courtesy. I appreciate those people that show common respect, as I try to do. I try not to get in peoples way and stay out of their shooting lanes. I try to let them enjoy their hunt. I will say HI at the parking lot but will leave people alone while they are trying to work their dog. I am not going to try and beat someone to a spot. If they got there first I respect that.

Year after year  I see people that seem more interested in ruining someone elses hunt than enjoying theirs. That was my aim with the post.

I learned to go into opening weekend expecting a bit of cluster.  Everyone thins out after a week or two.

While I understand your frustration, you yourself posted on another topic that public areas to hunt birds is scarce. That means there is going to be more people competing for the same small chunks of land. You can't then complain that someone else is trying to do the exact same thing you are doing. That's a bit hypocritical.

Sounds a bit like a threat! If your out hunting I would hope your a better shot than that cause that can go both ways. You might wanna be careful saying things like that.  :twocents:

How is it hypocritical to have common courtesy? In no way am I saying people shouldn't hunt pubic land. I am saying you can do it and still be respectful of other hunters.

No, you said do not park ypur vehicle anywhere near where I am hunting or may be heading. How is someone to know where your going? Again, you may not like it but just cause you may be there first does not give you the right to tell someone they cannot hunt on the same "PUBLIC LAND" or same area you are on. We all hunt the same land at some point with someone else. One could make the same argument that you should have the same common courtesy to share hunting ground with a fellow hunter who likely has paid the same costs and dues as anyone else.

It's posts like this that make me loathe the early season, especially ducks.  LOVE duck hunting, HATE (what seems like most) duck hunters.  If you don't like seeing people, don't hunt public land.

I do not feel this is the correct sight to assume none of Us have a clue. Most of Us have been in the field conducting ourselves in a correct manner. Most of have invested in Our guns, dogs and gear what most peoples cars are worth.
Maybe this thread should have been posted on Seattle lite daily.com or somewhere other than here.
We really dont need the obvious pointed out. :dunno:
All Im saying it was a pretty pointed comment, but it didnt really offend me, but then again I could really care less. :yike:
Good luck this season.

I'm with you LiveandLearn... for upland and duck hunters.  Even on Public land, if someone is there hunting, move along and find another spot without messing people up.  To be honest, I'm a bit suprised that people are arguing that...  But I've been suprised by morons in the marsh, woods, and field lots of times...

I quit duck hunting for a few years cause I was tires of waking up early to get to a spot only to have someone set up a 100 yards from me and sky bust every bird that went by.

I did have some good encounters last year with guys in Starwood, I walked over and talked to them and invited them to join us and we both agree to let the birds work the deeks, I still had a good time watching the birds check the other guys set up and it helped me learn what would work better for me

I'm pretty much in the same boat.  I hate getting "low holed" by other hunters.

You own your shot, if it hits anything other than dirt or a legal bird.....that's between you and the judge, keep that in mind. The bummer on public land is that not all people have courtesy or common sense, but starting a war will only hurt us all. Use people to your advantage.....you use your dog to push and point, you can play other hunters the same. It does not just go for birds.....

Guys need to show respect for each other on here and in the field. Lets try to set a great example for our youth that read these threads...
