2012 Mule Deer Camp In Pictures!
« on: October 25, 2012, 08:59:06 PM »
Dont know about you guys and gals but I look forward deer camp all year. Already looking forward to next years camp! Thought I would share our fun and success with you all with a little picture show. Our success rate wasnt the best and the bucks were'nt the largest but what a blast! Love it every year.

As with every year it starts a few days early to set up 4 wall tents and a kitchen...

My home for the next week and half...

The following day included some activities you would expect at hunting camp due to some bluebird weather...

A little horseshoes and some football...

I had to go and in and grab my trail cam that had been up since early Sept and had a nice little find!!
I must of walked within 10 yards of this the past few years. The first dead head I ever have found. Killer find!

Thursdays night is always a night of a little..

Fridays are a little uneventful besides a little firewood cutting just incase they reduce the fire restrictions... Opps... this wasnt fun to figure out.  :yike:

Alright on to the deer hunting.. sorry just love the camp aspect!!

So my bother that has'nt hunted in 15 years decides he wants to give it a go this year. Never been to the area so we decided to take him to one of my spots. Opening morning at dark thirty we hit the trailhead. I drop him off and explain to him what it will look like at daylight and I continue on to my spot. At 7:30 the quiet is interupted by the bark of a 270 about 400 yards up the ridge. I knew it had to of been him so I grab the Rhino and wait. "Jake I got one!" No way!! He ended up shooting a 4x3 at 120 yards and made a perfect shot! I told him its not this easy!!!

Nice wierd little 4x3 with a 22" spread! Pretty nice for a first deer!
ATL

Back at the trailhead...

I was able to connect on Sunday afternoon with this nice little 3x3. Nice frame on this guy with a 19" spread and kinda heavy.
I was still hunting down to my spot and when I entered the bowl just above my spot I stopped to glass the bowl for a bit and didnt see nothing so I took about 6 steps down into the bowl and he popped out from behind a bush 22 yards right in front of me!! Dont know how he or I didnt see eachother while I was glassing!! Maybe he was behind that bush the whole time or he walked right in front of me while my binos where up. But at that close he about gave me a heartattack and looked a whole lot bigger than he was. Damn cool to see them that close!

ATL

Some field photos... He was a big deer body wise...

All quatered up and ready for pickup in the morning and back at the trailhead...

Pretty easy pack out when you have 3 helpers! Thanks guys!

The rest of the week was exciting with a missed bear and a missed deer unfortunately!
Also I guess I put my tent in the low spot and got a little flood Monday night and got to dig a trench in the dark. That was fun!
Then waking up to a few inches of snow on Tuesday and found out that than we could have some fires!!! And a warm wall tent!! Even with the 30-50 MPH winds we were going to enjoy a campfire!!

Buck Stump!!!

Time to go home and back to the wife and reality! Until next year!! I LOVE DEER CAMP!  :hello:

Great looking hunt.

Cool pics.  On the second picture down...is that the crapper leaning against the tree, nice :chuckle:  looks like you went a little deep on that face cut when you were trying to get firewood too.
