Long distance bear down
« on: August 30, 2008, 06:40:53 PM »
We spotted this bear at over a 1000 yrds away.  There were three of us together and decided to let our buddy shoot.  I took Charlie as close to it as I could via road.  My other buddy stayed back where we were with the spotting scope to keep tabs on the bear.  I dumped him off and gave him some hand signal signs for when to shoot and direct him to the bear.  I headed back and the chase was on.  About an hour went by and Charlie was 150 yards below the bear.  It took him some time to get up to where he could get a visual on it.  After the OK sign from us that it did not have cubs we gave him the sign.  He got to within 80 yards with a pretty steep uphill shot.  It was quite awsome to see the water explode off of it and bounce down the hill before we herd the famous THWAK BOOM.  Its not a big bear but it is his second and his first black.  In the pictures you will see that Charlie started dragging it before we got to him and he lost it in the creek.  It is about 8 feet below him.  They saw a small one down in the low country the evening before  at 30 yards but did not shoot it.  Last weekend the other buddy in the picture and I saw one we should have shot.  We missed judged it at first and by that time it was gone.  It was a pretty good morning.

Awesome, not a bad bear at all.  I must admit I started getting mad at first,   I was thinking sheesh they shot from a 1000 yards!!  :)  Sorry for jumping to conclusions, read so many knuckle head stories I just jumped on the 1000 yards before I knew what I was reading.  Congrats!!
