anyone loose a 7x7 in the colockum during archery season???
« on: October 27, 2012, 05:19:17 PM »
Today we were up hunting in the colockum. We saw a herd of around 40 elk. 3 spikes and a big 7x7. The 7x7 had an arrow sticking out from behind his shoulder. He was moving around ok but limped a little on that side. He was a good size one. They were down on the private property on colockum pass rd. Not as many hunters up there like normal. Lots of snow up high.

Isn't there only one tag in the state that gets to hunt big bulls in or around that GMU with archery gear???  My guess is probably an attempt at poaching???

A lot of the arrow was sticking out. I was surprised it was still in there. Hit in the front shoulder. When he walked you could see it was stuck in something solid.

Those front shoulder are tough. Years ago a friend got called in to kill some elk tearing up a guys grass out in Eunumclaw. He ends up shooting a 5x5 right in the shoulder with a .30-06. He drops it and it runs off.Never found it. Next night the guy calls and says his flood light turned on and dammed if they 5x5 wasn't right back in there. Guy said it didnt even seem to limp just a small blood spot........Tough suckers. Usually they reach back and grab the arrow out or break it off. Must hurt like hell going thru the brush........

Heard about one getting shot between Reecer Creek road and Wilson Creek road on private property.  The guys that shot it were guests of somebody and were told it was a three point minimum area, didn't realize they were talking about deer not elk.  They got the heck out of there, the game department got their license plate number but never found the elk.  I am thinking no elk no foul.  I will forward this to the warden and see what he thinks.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
