Whose gonna chase grouse tomorrow?
« on: August 31, 2008, 09:45:09 AM »
Wondering how many people are gonna go out tomorrow? In my scouting I haven't seen many this year, pretty sure we don't have a bumper crop here in West Wa but I'm gonna go anyway.
 Anyone else?

I went on a little hike on my neighbor's land yesterday and got the crap spooked out of me by a ruffie that I damn near stepped on.  The kids and I are going to hit the old 700 line above Spider Lake for grouse tomorrow and then drop down to check out the kings at the Purdy Creek Hatchery.  Should be fun if the roads are not washed out.  I haven't been up there in close to 8 years.

My dad and I are planning to head up for some grouse hunting / deer scouting on Monday. We saw a few last week when we were up there so hopefully we'll find them again.

I saw five blue grouse yesterday and will be out tomorrow morning with the new Brittany to the same spot. Hopefully will find the same ones again.

Not sure how much walking I can do though...legs are feeling a little sore from all the hiking I've done the last couple of days.  :bash:

Wife wants to head out tomorrow, but not sure where.  We have a lot on the property in Kettle falls, but not going to drive all the way over there this weekend!

I ran into 3 groups yesterday about 10 birds total between the Windy Pass trail and NFD 111 just SW of Peoh Pt.  About flipped the horses over a couple times when they went off right under our feet.

I can't go out today but someone should.

I'll be chasing grouse as soon as I get my archery deer.

I'll be camoed up, headed out with bow in hand for deer, bear, grouse.  Rifle and shotgun will be in the truck, so if I see the game warden at the truck he'll be asking questions!    :chuckle:
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I can do that!  I'm in Cle Elum right now, and all this week. Can you PM me with a more specific location? Were they blue grouse?

This really isn't a recipe, more for if you're camping.  Marinated some up in lemon pepper sauce and cooked them on the grill.  Tasty.

Yeah, well I was a little questionable today, as I had my bird dog, my 270, and a bear and cougar tag in my pack. Walked in behind a gate a mile and a half, saw 4 deer, and heard some elk talking to each other, then one bugle off in the distance. I'm not sure what a warden would have said. Grouse season's not open yet, but I didn't have a shotgun. I had a bear tag and a rifle, in good bear country, and a dog, but my bird dog sure isn't going to chase a bear up a tree. Oh well, took my chances, and never saw a soul. (luckily I guess)  Personally I see nothing wrong with excercising the dog while packing a rifle in case a bear shows up.
