Cowiche bull down!
« on: October 29, 2012, 03:56:01 PM »
My wife and I were drawn for any bull tags this year for the Cowiche unit.  We had a great hunt, I killed my bull on tuesday and my wife killed hers on friday.  Tuesday morning before light I hiked in 2.5 miles, As soon as the sun came out I was on elk, I first spotted a nice bull at about 1000 yards, as I worked my way towards him I spotted about 40 more elk and another decent bull.  At about 500 yards and a small hill away a coyote starts howling between me and the elk and runs all the elk off.  Not too long after that I spotted another herd about 2 miles away on the ridgeline and there was a nice bull in that herd, so I decided to head up there and try my luck.  When I was about a quarter mile away from the elk, My wife and her dad were working up to those elk too, something spooked the elk and they started running down the ridge, my wife was close enough to take one shot, but missed.  The elk ran down the ridge for a while then stopped.  So being a few ridges away from the elk but still being able to see them, I decided to go after them, that nice bull was still there.  So i wroked my way down the ridge close to 2 miles before I caught up to the elk, the bull finally gave me a shot, between my breathing hard and my broken shooting sticks, which I broke on the last stalk, I missed two shots.  To make sure I didn't hit the bull I went to look for blood, when I got to where the bull was I looked two more ridges over and that bull was standing there.  No blood!  I figured I have alredy chased these elk this far might as well try one more time for this bull.  So I keep after them, three little hills later I come on the herd again and sneak into within 250yards and lay down and take my shot, yee haw dead bull!! :IBCOOL:
P.S. If anybody finds the rest of my bull's antler I will trade you for some backstraps! :chuckle:

Here is the wifes bull killed in the same area, she put three shots in him.  She stalked up to him within 260 yards and did the job.  Very proud of her.
