NE bull down....(story finally up)
« on: November 02, 2012, 11:01:40 AM »
Too bad not this big boy...

Alright....First bull down...pretty awesome...not the biggest but I'm glad my tag is filled up for limited time to hunt...little busy right now so story will come in later...thanks...

sorry so late on the story guys enjoy

Date: Oct. 31,2012   Time shot: 4:10-4:20pm

Starts off , it was Halloween morning and I wasn’t planning on hunting. I got a call in the morning from my uncle around 5 in the morning. Uncle asks if I wanted to go out with them (uncle, cousin). So I decided to head out with them…the wife wasn’t too happy because I ditched my son for hunting…which I was supposed to take him out trick or treating for the first time. Yeah I felt pretty bad myself.
Alright, now to the real stuff. We got up there around 7 ish ,hiked a few miles in. At this time we all split up already…didn’t see a thing….there was no fresh signs no movements….pretty quiet. Finally came across two other hunters and stop to talk to them. They were having the same luck as I was having. By this point my hope was pretty much gone. We hunted and hunted.  At about late afternoon got a call from my uncle telling me to head back towards him so we could head back to the car since we had a 4mile hike back before dark. Immediately I thought to myself that i could make it home in time to take my son trick-or-treating. As I was hiking back I reached a road intersection. At one point I look up behind me at the spotted clearings to my right and I saw a big white spot at about 300 plus yds away. I stopped to take a better looked and saw the racks. In my head I was thinking “*censored* this can't be real." and checked it out with my scoped. My adrenaline was pumping. "*censored*, why is it so far?" I've never shot anything over 200 yds. So I ran up the hillside try looking for a better shot…it was thick and ugly… but when I got to a little opening between the trees about 85 yrds off the road the bull was gone. I thought to myself "*censored* MAN!!! Thought it was it, then i let out two cow calls to make it seem like I was just an elk. I decided to run back down to the road thinking what I should say to my uncle… when i turned back to where I saw the bull it popped back out looking towards the cow calls I let out. At that time I was just like screw this I’m taking my chance…I looked around for a spot to rest, jumped in the brushes/trees and leaned on the thickest branch, raised up my scope on him and said to myself,  "I’m taking you home". The bull was quartering towards me with his left shoulders...BOOM!!!The bull shifted to his right....broadside now...I look back at him...*censored* he's not down...rushed on the second shot...broadsight...BOOM!!!...Bull jumped into the brushes. All i can see was his antlers and the tip of his noes...got up for a better bigger view...scope up...WHAT!! The bull is gone...damn...sour stomach time...grab my walkytalky...Uncle...i just shot one...UNCLE: did you hit him?...ME :idk...kinda far for me...UNCLE:WHAT??!! how far? ME: about 3oo yrds or little more...UNCLE: Little iffy...alright wait for me we'll go check it out...uncle gets over...took us over  30 mins to get to where the area the bull was...looked around...NOTHING...saw a fresh track went over the hill...uncle was like...you probably missed...this track might be the bull you shot.....comes the sour stomach again..damn...i split up frm my uncle...he's was like "your going the wrong way" i continue looking around...then all of a sudden....my uncle just started to yell ELK DOWN!!! ELK DOWN!!!....WHOOOOAAAA....finally…deep breath with the big smile on…now the work starts…we called back to town to gather more people to help pack out…there were 10 of us total. It seemed like a lot but it was still a pain. Finally done  cutting by 11:47 pm…it took us 3 hrs to hike back to the car…didn’t make it home until 4 in the morning..Blah…it was a pain but worth it…

Plz excuse my grammar…running out of time…thanks for reading guys…

more pics coming soon

Tough to find in the NE, good job.  You did what I couldn't do this year up there.

There aint nothing wrong with a bull like that.  You didn't have to go too far to get him and you were successful in an area that's not so easy to get a bull.  Great job!!
