lone elk on Whidbey Island..
« on: November 05, 2012, 04:42:58 PM »
So have you heard.. There is an elk on whidbey island, so far only one as far as I know. Guess he swam there. I was a bit skeptical at first when folks said they had seen one, but I have since seen pictures, and talked to enough people I trust that have seen him.. Thought you all would find that interesting.

Crazy where those things turn up!

I used to spend a lot of time in Oak Harbor when I was younger.  Found a moose shed one year while running around the woods.  Had a bullet hole in it

Crazy where things show up. This happend few years ago on Vancouver Island. A local sheep rancher North of Cambell River called the game department to say a griz was killing his meadow maggots (sheep). The department said no griz on the island and he could take out the black bear and call them for pickup. And by Jesus it was a griz that had swam to the island.

Wait till they get up to the deer population out there. Wait til the antis start hitting them with their cars. Do you think even then they will let you hunt them? No way!

I use to hunt out there quite often. When I would stop in the summer to try to gain access to private property, 9 times out of 10, the land owner hated the deer but refused to let anyone harvest one.
I hunt therefore I am.

That seems to be pretty common on the islands.  I hunted Orcas once a few years ago, same thing.  Most of the root eaters said they did everything imaginable to keep the deer out, but only a couple were actually open to having a bowhunter come in and help out.  I think it's a invasion of space issue.  People on the islands don't care to have mainlanders come on to their property, even if it is to help.

Not a lone wolf, but 8 packs. We don't want you wet siders feeling left out. :chuckle:
