westside late archery help?
« on: November 10, 2012, 06:16:16 PM »
I'm desperate!  :chuckle:

Ok now that that's out of the way. I need a little help for this late season. I know what units are open and in those units I have no idea where to go. Anyone want to help me out and give me their honey hole?!

I hear Winston is good, but lots of people. I don't mind people.....I like hunting vail  :chuckle:. I do live minutes from the wynoochee but it's 3pt or better and I haven't had very much luck locating elk in that unit on a regular enough basis to spend my late season in there.

I don't need to kill a bull. I'm shooting the first legal elk I get in range. And a big fat cow or half pint calf will do just fine for me.

Ps if you guys don't give up your spots......it won't be my fault your wives suddenly find out how much money you really spent on all those new rifles and bows  :tung: :chuckle:

I hunted winston last year for the first time and yes, there was a lot of hunters but its seemed like most never got out of there rig. I only hunted it for 2 days and I never saw an elk but I saw plenty of fresh sign. From what I have been told that area has a decent amount of elk but most are in very small bunches, like 5 to 6 animals in a herd which makes it kinda like deer hunting. Any small nook or cranny could have a legal animal hiding in it.  :twocents:
My cousin went up there 2 years ago for late hunt and was on elk everyday but never got any shot opportunities.

I would rather hunt alot of small groups of 5 to 10 elk then a few big herds.
