I have always wondered about shotgunning.  Seems you would need them REALLY close.  Thought about picking up an 870 to due work as grouse/rabbit/turkey gun, might as well throw coyotes in there too!

Just noticed your tag line jdb...... "Illustious Potentate"  That is pretty good. :chuckle:

#4 buck with a full choke does a great job.

I've been wanting to try the hevi-shot Dead Coyote....but I'm too cheap.
I left it better than I found it...did you?

I use my 870 with 3"  T or F shot, work pretty good out to 50 or 60 yards.

I have the Benelli Super Nova 3.5 Mag with Dead Coyote Choke and Hevi shot Dead Coyote. At 70 yds. it will tear up a 8 0z. plastic water bottle. It holds a tight pattern.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Can't put my finger on it.  I have heard it in the "Left Behind" books/movies, and in Robin Hood and some others but for the life of me cannot remember where...........

Jeremiah Johnson? I think I remember it in that movie? The old man come running in the cabin with a griz in tow and jumps out the back window with Jeremiah inside :chuckle:

I use a Benelli Nova with a 28" barrel.  Extra full turkey choke and #4 buck shot.  Has worked well so far.

Had an 870 all dolled up and NEVER SHOT IT in the field! Sold it. I just bought a Benelli SBE2 with a steadygrip stock, advantage camo, 24" barrel.... so sweet! Hope to bloody it bad over its lifetime! I haven't patterend it yet, but I have 3" and 3.5" #4 buck for Coyote, and 3.5" 00 buck when I'm hunting brush for Cougars.

Not a lot of pressure for them in rifle restricted areas.  I use 870 with a Hastings rifled barrel and a 2.5 power Pentax lightseeker II

How is that barrell? I'm thinking of getting one. what would you consider the maximum humane effective range?

I use a Benelli Nova with Dead Coyote choke and Dead Coyote 3" loads. But I have killed more coyotes with a old 870 using #4 buckshot.
