Rivers west doesnt breath...if you are walking alot you will be just as wet on the inside! Its great for stand hunting. I have two sets lightweight and heavy weight would never buy again  I just switched to the MTO50 so far so good havent gotten wet at all I prefer the bibs over pants so nothing goes down your back.

 

I bought two sets of Rivers West gear, for my son and myself.
Without a doubt the worst money I have ever spent on rain/hunting gear.

dont suppose you want to sell it then? what weight do you have?

I like RW. I think the reason some folks have issues with it is because you are over dressing for the conditions and hunting to fast. Its waterproof, quiet and warm.

it took me some time to figure it out, but now that i have i will always have it, you dont hikr in it, get to where your going and then change your clothes to a pair of loose flannel pajama bottoms and a light long sleeve tshirt, but wait until your cold before putting on the RW, and then still hunt or whatever, honestly if your over heating then your moving to fast or its just to warm out for the stuff

What i would like to try is a rivers west poncho. Wonder if they would make me one?

I have riverwest coat and cabelas dryplus insul. pants.  They both do exactly what ther were made too do.  The pants get heavy so I have suspenders on them.  The coat has vents and a zipper too cool off some.  I wear underwear and a tee shirt with these and am warm in 30degree weather.  It doesnt breath well at all and a guy will sweat to death if too active.  So I will take off coat when hiking.  Listen this is good stuff but not when you are too active.  It all depends what you want or expect.  If i am hiking I will wear something else.   I have got a little leakage thru zipper on pants and shoulders have been damp with coat in the worst of weather, but never cold.

Rivers West sucks for guys that have to hump up and dowm mountains!  I don't care if your naked underneath the stuff when your hiking, your gonna sweat and that sucks!  Its good stuff if you are gonna sit in a tree stand or just sit somewhere!  Sitka, Kryptek, etc are the way to go for the guys that hunt steep country and put miles on.

Read through every post about Rivers West, it is about 50% of the responses are "works as advertised" the 50% its no better then a hefty bag, does not breathe, waste of money.
I do not know about anyone else, but when I ask for opinions on how well a product "works as advertised" and half of the responses are to the negative, it's not because they have not "figured out" how to use the product.

My Rivers West gear are 5 years old, could they have got better since? Sure, would I take a chance wasting my money on their product when half of the people still say they do not work as advertised "again"?

Of course you can sweat in anything. Wearing rivers west is like working out in a garbage bag to lose weight before a boxing match. The stuff absolutely does not breath.

As I said earlier, I wear gortex. I have some Sitka downpour stuff that's ok but it's not perfect and for the price it could be a lot better. Anything gortex will not be completely waterproof, especially when sitting or kneeling. When I'm on the boat on a real rainy day nothing will keep me more dry than the rubber rain gear, I have both grundens and helly Hansen, probably prefer HH. On a normal day I will wear the grundens gortex similar stuff they now call Gage.

Ya know if its not cold I just wear soft quiet fleece and get wet.  I dont mind wet as long as its not cold.  Truth is any waterproof isnt going to breathe well.  Its not like there are little one way valves to let the sweat out!  RW is bad at it and so is rain gear/rubbers so whats the fuss about?  If rw wasnt so warm it would be better, unless it was really cold then it would suck huh?  I dont get it.
