Wal-Mart Tire shop in Moses Lake...Liar's!
« on: December 03, 2012, 09:13:14 AM »
So... Saturday, i took my son out hunting, and somewhere along the way we acquired a screw in our Rt front tire. We drove home with no issue. Once home I pulled out the screw, slowly, and did not hear any hissing, so I though we were good. Well the tire was flat by morning. After the Moses lake meat shoot , i aired up the tire and took it to the only place open on Sunday afternoon. Wal Mart. I left the truck, and the family and I shopped for a while. I went back to the tire part of the store to check on the progress and was told this by the walmart guy working on my tire. " the tire is not repairable because it is leaking around an old plug. I cant fix it because it has a patch in it already" I said, really, that interesting, seeing how none of those tire have had a leak or a patch since they were put on brand new. I proceeded to tell him the story about how I pulled a screw out the evening before and how it was flat by morning. All he said was again that it was already patched and he could not fix it. I said show me where he sees this "patch". I look, and don't see anything that looks any different than the rest of the tread. Do Walmart employees really think I am so stupid to believe this crap? I said to put the wheel back on the truck. After that, just for fun, I asked him to recap his story and he fed me the same line of BS. Sorry about the rant, but wow, what a tool this guy was. This morning, My Father in  law aired up the tire and took it to Commercial Tire in Moses Lake. They said they found a small puncture which they repaired at no cost in about 20 minutes.

nice, do these dbags really think people are that are stupid.  :yike:

Go back and let the manager know. He could be the problem though, pushing them to sell people stuff they don't need.

I asked another walmart employee if it was this guys first day or something, the employee said  "no, he use to be the tire shop manager". I chuckled and said "USE to be, very fitting."  :chuckle:

Not going to do much more than warn people about what I have seen.  I was not excited to go there in the first place, but what ya gonna do on a Sunday afternoon. I want to put my experience out there for others to read.

There is a REASON that Les Schwab has had ALL my tire business since 1982... Sears in Oly used to pul that kind of BS back in the late 70s and early 80s, I canned them and have stuck with LS ever since.

We had a similar issue on the wife's Subaru - yes, - I know, Subaru - when she picked up a tack, and we had to take it to Costco to repair.  They wouldn't repair it, because, they say, the holes are too far apart, and they don't have a patch that size.  I had them put the spare on and left.

Lo and behold, the auto parts store had patches 2X the size that Costco said they had.  So I patched it myself using plug patches, and it's going on 2 months without issue.  Our next tire purchase will be with Discount Tire.

I have to believe occurrences like this stem from a mixture of wanting to sell more tires to the uniformed and an issue of policy dictated by corporate legal that prevents then from repairing an otherwise perfectly good tire.  Although in your case, it sounds like he was just an idiot that misdiagnosed your situation and misapplied the goofy risk-averse corporate policy.

If they won't repair the tire, it's not hard to use the plug patches for the right type of punctures.

Just spend $15 on a tire plug kit and never waste your time going to the tire shop for a flat again.

I stopped in on a few WMTs when shipping for tires a few months ago. Each visit left me with a bad.vibe about their overall level of competence. Sufficient to say, they didn't earn my business.

If you'd gone to Les Schwab they would have told you that you needed a new tire, AND your brakes and shocks were toast.

I've heard a lot of auto repair shop horror stories but never one about a tire shop bending a rim while repairing a tire. Would have loved to have seen how they managed to accomplish that one.  :dunno:
