Anyone Killing Deer?
« on: September 09, 2008, 10:34:54 AM »
The season is well under way, has anyone got there deer yet. I've seen several nice bucks come in from the area that I live in, on in paticular was a nice 26" 4x mule deer.

Post your pics.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Season openend up for me on Monday. It was a long day, had to work Sunday night into Monday morning, and then I hit the woods. The temps were in the mid to high 80s and the wind was blowing about 10 to 20 mph, didn't see any deer until arond 2-2:30 and then it was a buck and 2 does, wasn't able to shoot because of the wind gusts and the angle of the shot. Got settled in and I had a little fawn still in spots playing peek a boo with me, kept coming out eating some chesnuts and then running back in to the trees, it did this three or four times and wish I had the camera with me, had it up in the truck, same time I had a humming bird messing with me. On my way home I counted 17 deer. Going back out in less than 6 hours.

I shot a 3x4 Mulie the 3rd or 4th of September.  Not real big but it was 120 lbs hanging carcass.  I spotted it bedded down in a canyon & watched it feed up towards a field.  Once it committed on a trail into field I ran around & got in front of it and just ambushed it.  He was with a couple of smaller bucks and a few does.

Hey mlgunkel, do you have any pictures of the buck to share?  I'm curious to see if it's one that I've got pictures of when it was alive.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

I'll go take a couple of pictures of the head & post them a little later.  I got it up on montgomery ridge in the feel free to hunt field on the east side of the road.
