How bout instead of all this passion and outcry for DEER, why not try to help PEOPLE? People are hungry, cold, having hard times. Some of  you put critters over man. Ain't no animal critter more important than a human to me.

If this Entiat affair happens year after year after year, seems clear to me that there is plenty of game for  tribe and non tribe.  Maybe I'm wrong.

I've got a serious question.....what ever happened to theoretical proof?   If something seems wrong then why does there have to be proof.  It seems obvious that in todays age there shouldn't be unlimited catch limits, unlimited harvest limits etc.   What if I were an enrolled member and I decided I should harvest every single buck I see instead of photographing them.  What if even my limit was 20.   I could bust one, give it to someone I don't know, go bust another give it to my uncle , go bust another put that one in the fridge, bust another and celebrate the winter solstice, bust another for the family down the street.......on and on.   Its surprising to me that the concept of going on the winter range and killing as many big bucks as I can find in any given area isn't a red flag.
Imagine if every deer I post a photo of on here I kill.   I get within 30 yards on almost all of them.  I could do it with my bow let alone a 30-06.   Does that seem OK?  Its not even fathonable to me.

I guess I love wildlife and nature too much.

I'd wager that guys waiting untill december to "help" the needy arent willing to work half as hard to kill animals. Im willing to help/join any talks on shutting down the unit to motorized vehicles december 1st or as early as november 15th thats my  :twocents: I agree that this would effectivly curb most poaching/native slaughtering that goes on.

Seems to be a good deal of people commenting who don't understand and haven't witnessed the slaughter.  This poor area is so ravaged by poaching.  It's unsustainable.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Well the only way things are going to change is if people contact the WDFW and get the ball rolling. Talking without action does nothing. This might have a bearing on future Entiat permits which most people aren't willing to sacrafice.

Yeah i would say that you couldnt be more wrong.  Maybe you have watched too many survival videos or something.  The ones doing the slaughtering are doing so in vehicles.  They have the money to own and operate a vehicle and guns but not enough to feed themselves and stay warm, YEAH RIGHT.  I think its fine to look for the good in most things but there is a difference in looking for the good and just overlooking the obvious.  There is a problem and guys on here know exactly what they are talking about, so listen up and recognize there is a problem and quit standing up for those that dont deserve it.

The ball is rolling, we'll have to see how far it goes. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,112872.msg1479695.html#msg1479695

WDFW has been contacted several times, and their hands are tied as much as ours. Your exactly right about having a bearing on future permits. Going to be intersting when the bios fly the winter range and the buck to doe ratio is below status quoe, and the reprocutions fall back on the sportsman.

I've seen this first hand while sockeye fishing out of my sled at the mouth of the Okanogan... Pretty cool sight to see tribes actually using selective harvest methods...

I posted a legitimate question about getting the ball rolling on the "Lock the Gates" thread, but since nobody has answered it there, I'll ask here.

What do we need to do, as a group of concerned citizens or as individuals, to get the ball rolling more than just on the pages of a forum? Who do we need to contact and with what information/proposal? WDFW? The Yakama Nation? Mule Deer Foundation? News media across the state? Other wildlife organizations?

As an English teacher, I'd gladly offer my services to help revise/edit a blanket letter that HuntWA could send as a group with signatures attached, or that each of us can send to the parties it needs sent to. I don't have the means to donate money to a cause, but I can give my time.

This topic is exactly why I hunt in Idaho and Montana.  Their elk and deer are being slaughtered too.  But, we can shoot the wolves over there.

Phil and his crew are gonna meet up with the wrong guy some day and ?  Who knows?  Dont worry, It wont be me.  I'm done with tryin to stop the slaughter.  I just hunt out of state instead.

You all really don't understand how many animals these guys are shooting.  It would blow your mind!

Good luck on those gates!  Hope they help.

247,

I think that is a good idea.  I would like to see it go to the state.  You could send it to the tribe, but I wouldn't expect a response.  They like to thumb their nose at whitey.  I think off the Rez tribal members should have to abide by the same laws we do.  They are off the Rez after all.  When you're done let me know where to sign.

Never said anything about the "slaughter" being done by poor cold disadvantaged folks.  I'm talking about the folks in your community who need help. How long has the slaughter gone on? How many years? Is the unit closed? No? Can't do anything bout treaties.

Some one told me to "listen up". Well, I have read all the post, and all I'm listening to is whining. I can sympthesize with both user groups. The truth prolly lies somewhere between. I did see one letter posted from some mule deer ass'n. Good for those folks. I can hardly see how whining and tossing around perjoritives and open racism helps those deer. If folks spent as much time doing what every one says "we should do", maybe you'd get more done. I won't take a side. All I know is, the last time I was really active on this site, 4 years ago, it was the same old song and dance.
