Yellowstone National Park trip report...
« on: September 16, 2008, 09:31:00 PM »
I got to YNP this morning and drove around the park today.  It's hot and the elk are just starting to bugle.  Found a few bulls, pronghorn, and bison but that's about it for today.  Got a few good pronghorn and elk shots.  I'm here for a week so I'll try and connect every day or two and give you guys a teaser or two.  I'm on a wifi hotspot in my car in West Yellowstone so I don't have much photo editing capability with this laptop.

If you guys weren't all out elk hunting like I should be it would be nice to have someone to share gas with...

Today started early.  I found this elk out rutting his girls.  He was only out for about 5 minuts, then he hid for the morning.

Next I made it over to the Hayden valley and hiked out to some grizzlys.  Before I knew it, they were coming right for me and close.  I made it back to the car and got some great photos.

I ended the day in the Lamar valley and shot some nice pronghorn.  At dusk I looked for the wolves but they had gone out on a hunt that morning and the wolf guys said they won't be back for a few days.  I searched hard for moose today and struck out.  Tomorrow I'm going to the tetons to look for moose.  I'll check in tomorrow again if I can find a hotspot...

Great pic's, have fun and be safe.  The road I was telling you about is a few miles towards the park entrance from Jackson Airport, it is called Antelope Flats Road, the Buffalo are in huge herds back along a frontage road that parallels the hwy, but can't be seen from the hwy as well...  The Moose area that we and my wifes family that are residents, highly recommend is along the river at Swambachers Landing Launch...  Or right along Jackson Lake beach near the big lodge...

MAke sure to get a photo of all the photographers shooting the bull elk as well, it really is something to see.  When I was in college I would go down there every fall, that first bull is very similar to one that I was able to photograph as he pushed his cows up a hill towards me, well  the cows ended up coming right up where my vehicle was the big 5 was right behind them bugling his brains out, I can still vivedly recall his rut estranged bloodshot eyes on the other side of my s-10 blazer as he screamed his head off, man that was a rush.  September is the best time to visit yellowstone by far.  Keep the photos coming.

those are some great pics. you must have a really nice camera. i was there in june and had a blast. it was my 3-4 trip. we saw a grizz, a few pronghorn, lots of elk, and buffalo up the kazoo. heard some wolves howling at night. creepy. the lamar is amazing. probably my favorite area we visited. madison river area is cool too.

have fun and get some more pics

i dont recall seeing a single deer. have you seen any?
