Pheasant and Quail??????
« on: September 19, 2008, 10:30:24 PM »
Could anybody tell me of a place close to yakima to hunt pheasant and quail?  I have hunted above naches a lot and got into a few quail but not many.  And is there any place to hunt wild pheasant around there?  PM me if you like.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a dog? How close are you thinking?

I have a gw pointer and my dad has a gw pointer.  I live on the west side and it takes me about 2+ hours to get to yakima.  But any where within an hour or so drive of yakima would be good.

Thanks

If you want to hunt near Yakima I think I would try the Yakama Indian Reservation. It is open for bird hunting, you just have to buy an access permit. Also if you don't mind released birds, Sunnyside Wildlife Area is probably a decent place to get your dog into some birds.

I would hit the rez for Pheasants.  Chukars in the Yakima canyon and quail in the lower Lt murray.

Are the pheasants on the rez wild or pen raised?  Also is the hunting on the rez pretty good?

Thanks

They are wild on the res. It can be tough hunting at times. Opening weekend and holidays can be a zoo but if you can hunt it during the week you should be able to find some birds.

I am from Eburg and hunt the reservation all the time.  Good stuff even in bad years.
If you think you can or think you can't, you're right.
