Deep end him.  Stop at the end of a spur, point in the general uphill direction and say "There's a legal bull right up there, I can smell him.  Have him back here at the landing in two hours."

And when you come back 8 hours later,  I wouldn't wager against H20 sitting on a pile of bloody game bags having an attitude about having to haul that elk back down on the double because he was thinking he might be 15 minutes late and miss his ride.  Just be prepared for that and have that bourbon with you.

Not many trees for them to hide there.

That's are late season area.  A lot more trees where we hunt in September.  I didn't have any hood pictures of that area on my phone.

Of course I'm used to hunting Rosies on the OP.  Your country would look a little sparse when compared to mine.  Whole different type of hunting between the two areas.

H20hunter will be joining my elk hunting party this September.   He has never elk hunted that I know of so I'm leaving it up to hunt wa members should I take baby steps with him or just drop him off at the deep end of the pool?

Fresh meat sounds like a new porter to me!  :chuckle: H20hunter start working out those legs and back muscles.

What exactly did D-Rock promise you in this camp H20?  White Lightning and Banjo music?  If you hear Banjo music, run!

I make a decent porter and meat sherpa. Promises? Nothing much....a double sleeping bag, starlit nights, candles...the usual for elk camp.

h2o, ever think it may just be your red beard and purty mouth that got you invited?? :chuckle:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
