First big WA score
« on: February 10, 2013, 06:06:18 PM »
Last Saturday I stopped at a neighbors and found a real nice (for here) three point shed in his lawn.  In the last five years, I have only found three sheds, all in his yard.   I've been working with the pup to try to get her interested in finding antlers since we have nothing else out here out look for.  The first pic is what she and I found today, I spotted each one first but she did eventually find each one.  One looks like last year's that was somehow missed in my hiking around as it was laying out on a cat road.  The second pic is the day's total.  Again, she found them but they were spotted by us first, mostly in people's lawns.  The one on the left and the center bladed spike are Weathergirl's first sheds she's ever found.

All in all, a pretty good score for out here.

Loki are the 3 point matched? If so how far from where bugaboo shot at that buck?

Nope, not matched.  They were both quite a ways from there.  I didn't find any sheds down in those apple trees.

The second left of center and the one first right of center might be matched, bases are identical and they were about 120 yards apart on the same property.  The two that are second in from the ends could be matched even though one is a three and the other is just a fork, they were found a couple hundred yards apart.  But, they could just be from related bucks as well as each has a similar shape.

Why havent you made an antler catcher with bungie cords or hog pannels?

I did put a rope across the front of the feeder I built a couple years ago, but got no results so removed it.  Looking on the lawns seems to work fine.   ;)

Who knows.  We've seen as many as thirty in one evening driving around the southern half of the island.  There is a large area that is not huntable due to no access.  I have found a minimum of 6 dead fawns so far hiking around looking for sheds.

There are LOTS on the N half where they feed them corn and the local covonets prohibit hunting even on private property... They thin they are damn pets!

As far as I know, there is only one person, besides myself, that feeds them.  She feeds year round.  I was working at her place once using a chopsaw in the yard, I looked up and had 8 deer standing within 20 feet of me looking for food.   :yike:  Made me a little nervous being unarmed and all.   :chuckle:  She rarely sees bucks though, she says.

I once saw an old guy feeding corn to them near the boat launch on the north side... soon as the PU showed up thay all came out of the trees.
