Bark Collar

My 10 month old FBL has decided she needs to "remind" me its feeding time about 1-2hrs beforehand.  I pulled out my old bark collar that hadn't been used in years, no go...  Recommendations/suggestions for a new one?  Thanks.

If you find a good one let me know. I have a Red Heeler that has suddenly decided he needs to bark to when he wants in the house. It doesn't bother me but my neighbors are complaining. I had an old bark collar but it doesn't seem to affect him at all.

next best thing to getting a bark collar is ignoring the beast when its trying to get your attention.

every now and then my dogs try and get clever by barking at the door from their outside kennel, and every now and then they fool me and I stick my head out the door, which reinforces the behavior. I have started coming out the door with a squirt bottle blazing away every time they bark for attention, they soon learn to keep quiet... kinda funny watching 170Lbs worth of labs running from a plant mister.

I use one, but I am still not 100% ok with a bark collar, as I don't want my dog punished for alerting me of intruders... but some dogs are just barking disasters and only a collar will work - I owe my neighbors that much since I wouldn't put up with their dogs barking incessantly.

Years ago, when I was training my setter pup, I read in a book by a famous gun dog trainer how to break your dog of barking.  He said that a dog will bark to get attention.  It doesn't matter that the dog got the crap beat out of him after he barks--he got the reaction he wanted.  In short, HE WON!  The author went on to say that the best way to break a dog of the barking habit is to put your dog in the back of the truck, (truck with canopy preferred) and go to a restaraunt and go in and have a cup of coffee.  The dog will bark to get you to come out.  Don't go out!  Go to the door and listen to see if he's still barking.  If he is, go back and have another cup of coffee.  Go listen again.  Eventually,the dog will get the idea that his barking ploy doesn't work, and he will stop barking.  Don't go back out until the barking stops!  One lesson is usually all it takes.  From then on, you will have a dog that will never bark just to get attention.  I tried it...It works!

My female Vizsla barks constantly when she is outside in her kennel and she can see anything move or hear anything wierd.  She is very over protective of her space.  I was hesitant about using a bark collar on her because I was affraid she wouldn't bark at intruders or other bad people.  I ended up getting the collar anyway and it worked great.  She definitely thinks twice before she barks at the non important things.  But if someone comes onto the property that she doesn't know the collar doesn't stop her at all which is what I wanted.  I will agree that tri-tronics is the way to go.

Tri tronics Bark limiter and dogtra ys500 are the best out there and are comparable in price. Our customers prefer the dogtra. The bark limiter is a tad smaller though. Garmin is absorbing the bark limiter later this spring for the rechargeable one and it a model will have a vibrate mode. Also the e collar delta sport will be a shocking system that has a built in bark collar!

The reason he said to go to a restaraunt is that nobody cares if your dog is barking in a restaraunt parking lot!

I like my labs silent. My old dog never barked around the house. But she would scream in a blind at hunt tests.
My new pup barks when I get home. But I am careful not to go to her while she is barking ,she quiets in five minutes.
Still I think a bark collar may be in her future.

The reason he said to go to a restaraunt is that nobody cares if your dog is barking in a restaraunt parking lot! 

why create extra steps? skip the restaurant and just practice this at home and be consistent.
