Very true. We can see deleted posts. But we cannot see deleted personal messages or anything to do with personal messages not directed to us.

It just makes me wonder if its the truth because I know they have the ability to view deleted posts. :dunno:  I guess I should ask this: Ray, can you explain to us how the personal messages are kept private?

Without even reading the rest of the thread, if it is on the net, it ain't private no matter what you do or don't do.

Your pm's to other members... are saved on CD in case the "armed men in the woods" have a "hunting accident"  (Direct quotes from your pm's) at my expense.

To me, this is a gross violation, and an extremely invasive act. >:(

Based on what has been provided, it appears that the member(s) who were allegedly threatened forwarded or "copied/paste" the PM(s) to the Mod's/Admin.... so in essence, the powers that be here on the Forum are not snooping around your PM box.

Hell, dude, it's happened to me on several occasions.... e-mails too!  :chuckle:  You have to understand that if a member feels threatened here on the Forum (due to posts and or PM's), the moderators and admins are obligated to address the issue.

Via security built into the forum software in various forms. The entire simplemachines software is open source. Go to simplemachines.org for technical details on the exact structure of the database, sql queries, or even to download it and view the code, etc.

There is only one person who has direct access to the database and that is me. If the government requests information for investigation I will hear about it. Otherwise nobody's getting in.

Seems that ray says it's "impossible" yet others do not.    :dunno:

What's impossible? Others do not what?

Sites like CNN.Com get hacked all the time. Govt. computers are compromised and spies get in and steal secrets all the time.

If you think I am spying on you then go get a real life. That's what the discussion is all about. Do moderators or even admins have the ability to spy on your personal messages - no.
If that is not clear enough then who knows what is....

If you want to know about the forums limitations go find out for yourself. You don't have to believe me.

Exactly. If that is what someone thinks then they can sign off and never sign back in again. Won't hurt my feelings none.

Just watch out if you go to a UBB Forum if that sort of thing concerns you. I was an admin on them before and they have such a feature built into some of their versions which allow admins to view other people's personal message and even to "become" that user temporarily. It might make sense to have that for someone somewhere but I don't believe in it.

Lincoln.... It's DARK out and I'm not sure you're aware of any of the hunting regulations for Germany........................

the time of "night" in german hunting regulations is one half hour after sunset till one half hour before sunrise and the only animal we are aloud to hunt during that period of time is also the only hochwild that does not have a set number in each revear on how many can be shot because they can move 20 to 30 kilometers a day...... the wild boar..... im bored... .....we went over hunting horns in class today..... and i did a PMI and a load test  on a mep 9 today... and some of my CDC's..... so today wasn't very exciting.

Just so it is cleared up.

No one, neither mods or admins, can see, read, or save anyones private messages.
If you send a message to someone it can be copied and pasted or forwarded to other members.
If you want to save your pm's to your hard drive or burn them to disc you can, just like you can save anything else from the net.

UBB is the software which runs some bulletin boards on the internet http://www.ubbcentral.com/ it is not freeware and I doubt it is open source. It is good stuff though.
