Any thoughts on what might be a good choice for medium size? I'v been looking at the Diawa LEXA 2500SH

I have a penn battle 3000 and love it. Have a couple 2500 shimano's like the sahara and symytre that are awesome. Just beware of the new model shimano spinning reels as I have heard and seen lots of them blowing up. I think they redesigned them and from the sounds of it, they are having lots of issues.

Can't go wrong getting a little higher quality Shimano Stradic.  Definitely holds up to everything up to and including steelhead.

The 2500 is about right for a "medium" sized do-all reel.

I've had really good luck with Cabelas Salt Strykers over the last 15 or so years (same one the whole time that I used a lot, finally broke a case screw).  They were recently changing it's look, so I bought 4 more at about half price, I'm set now for the rest of my life.    :tup:  They have, I think, four sizes and I believe are all still under $100.

+1 on shimano. Have had many many reels over the last 35 years including quite a few diawa, penn, Abu Garcia, and now I only buy shimano. I like the symetre also.

Pfluegers! they are dynamite! depends how much you want to spend but the Purist, Supreme, and Supreme XT and President are all awesome!  :tup: :tup:

Shimano Stradic or a Pfleuger President.  Can't go wrong with either, especially the Pfleuger at the cheap price.  They are the most underrated spinning reel out there.  I've burnt up a ton of higher end reels......Shimano, Diawa, Quantum......but have never burnt up a Pfleuger yet.  Just as smooth as well. :twocents:

hard to beat a pfleuger president model. ive burnt out and blown up several quantums and shimanos and put the pfleuger through the same paces as the others and its holding strong and it is one of the smoothest reels ive owned
