Duel Batteries

Hey all, I'm want to run 2 batts on my 2009 1500 silverado. I have a 95 amp alternator and the isolators I've seen are for 90 amps. Will this work, or do I need a bigger isolator. Thanks

Why are you adding a second battery and why do you want to isolate it. Answers to this will determine the best set up for you.

Depending on why you are adding a second battery you may not want or need to isolate it. Just run in parallel to the other battery. No need to spend a bunch on an isolater and switch set up if you don't need to.

 For the added accessories. Just wondering if I can hook up to a 95 amp alt w/ a 90amp isolator or do I need a bigger isolator.

It will work fine . If your ussing it for a camper you may just want to use a continous duty solinoid though . if you just want more cranking power I'd just run # 4 or bigger cable from positive to positve on the Batteries.

You might consider a larger alternator as well. You will find most dual battery setups are running alternators of 130 amp or larger. :twocents:

IMO you don't need 2 batteries with that alt.... I ran a normal alt in my S10 with 2 ultimas for my winching... Had one go bad and killed them both..... Since you seem to think you need 2 it is smart to use an isolator, I would use one of the marine style that can isolate either or use both.

You do not need an isolator for running added accys. The point of an isolator is to power things up while your truck/boat is not running. That way you dont kill your main battery and end up stuck needing a jump. If you just add a few accys just put a bigger alternator on or add a second battery.  There is no reason for you to put an isolator on. Even if you are adding a winch a dual battery set up works just fine without an isolator. Most people don't winch enough to kill 2 batteries. If you are just adding some lights and other small accys don't bother with 2 batteries. Just buy a good quality battery. Sounds like thats what you are doing?
