@ mtmn35rem5 That is a neat picture with the life jacket. It may be tough to get both the foreground and background in focus with a picture like that since you are so close to the lifejacket. The camera can't capture that much depth of field. Some things you could try and experiment with to capture that photo how you want is to stand further back from the life jacket, set your aperture as high as you can (not familar with your camera but f/18-f/22), using a tripod is a must, and focus about 1/3 into the scene. This is where manual focus comes in handy. When you focus this way it will look blury in the viewfinder but will come out good if done correctly. It can be done with autofocus but manual focus gives you much more control. It takes some practice but learning it is a ton of fun. I'm sure others will have some great advice.
