Timneys are great.  Have one on my custom mauser build.  Can't go wrong there.

Another alternative is the Series 2 Wby trigger, which i have on my 257wby mag vanguard series 2.  I believe you may be able to retrofit your s1 with a s2 trigger.  It's a 2 stage 2.5# trigger, and feels different than a timney.  IMO not better or worse, just different.

Heres the web link to the wby factory vanguard s2 trigger
http://www.weatherby.com/product/accessories/shootersaccessory/44640

Both are great- just depends on your preference.

I would not go cheaper than these two options though

Have a Canjar set trigger on my 338/378 Accu. But a timney would work just as good!

I have timney in every long gun I own... If they made them for handguns, I would buy them for those as well.  They are the best out there (IMO anyway).  I have one in my 700P that is 2lb, both of my AR15s and my LR308 have have a 3lb skeletonized.  In my custom Mauser 98 .25-06 I have an adjustable set to 2.5lb.  You will not go wrong with a Timney.  They break the same every time, just like glass.  Some will say jewel is a better option, but I like Timney because its more rugged and field friendly.  In many years of shooting and hunting in Western WA, in just about every conceivable weather type I have NEVER had a trigger failure of ANY type.  Just some zippo lighter fluid when I clean my rifle and a blast from a can of compressed air and they will run forever.  I fully expect my rifles to break down and still have a functioning trigger to move into something else...

For my AR triggers, the best deal I found (in stock, without a 6-12mo wait) was on Amazon at $299, they can be had for ~$275 if you are willing to wait until the market normalizes... My 700 was $124.99...and my mauser came with it installed, but I think they run ~$60...

Edit: The solid AR trigger is ~$230, but I wanted the lighter skeletonized, plus the trigger shoe is a little wider, and has a better feeling curve too it.  Other than that, they are exactly the same.

Yeah, they can be pricey and even that is an understatement, but short of glass if there was anything on my rifle I was going to replace and spend some money on it is the trigger.  It is always #3 thing I do... #1 being buy the rifle, #2 being optics... And once you get one on a rifle, every other trigger you own just feels terrible, which is why I keep picking them up when I can.  Now all my rifles have a timney, and my trigger finger is nice and happy

My favorite for AR's are Geissele, Kidd triggers in the 10/22's, Rifle Basix in the Savage and Marlin HMR's and Timneys in just about everything else.  Timney makes some wonderful triggers.

If you watch the classifieds on different forums, you can find Timneys pretty reasonable.  There was a group buy on Predatormasters on Timney AR triggers a while back and some folks that bought extras are selling them.   Picked one up for an AR a week or so ago.

Work to live, don't live to work.

So... a "timney trigger" isn't a one-size-fits-all sort of thing that you just modify for your particular rifle and drop it in there? You have to buy a specifically made one to match your particular weapon you want to put it in?

Timney triggers are a trigger system actually that replaces the whole trigger assembly in most rifles, some are replacement springs and some are just the trigger.  Really its about how the trigger functions for that particular firearm. They make them for everything from the Arisaka to Winchester... Also have an archery release.

Can check them out here... http://timneytriggers.com/

There are a number of good triggers, I like them. a good trigger is wonderful. When you get it practice with it a lot, keep your finger out of the trigger guard. It takes a bit to get used to and I bet you have a couple accidental trigger trips until you get used to it. Always warn people that handle your guns that you have a LIGHT TRIGGER!!
