2013 Spring Bear Log
« on: March 07, 2013, 02:13:28 PM »
This years off to a good start.  First year putting in for spring bear and I hit it.  I put Lincoln as my first choice and hit it.  Should I be excited about a Lincoln tag?  Just trying to get a feel for what I got.  I'll Probably take my son out this weekend and look around for access.  Where can I get a map from for the specific area I will be allowed to hunt?  Any tips would be great.  Ill keep posting as the hunt goes on.

DIY-Weyerhauser willl send you a map of the areas you can hunt. We had that tag a few years ago and didn't get one but we only went down a few times. They won't be in every clearcut, that's for sure. It seemed to us like the areas that we were allowed to hunt didn't have as much sign as some of the areas in Lincoln that weren't open. As you may guess, it's only selected areas in that unit that are open. Hopefully they put you in the right spot. Get a WA state Gazetteer as a map to go along with the map they send you and good luck.

Unfortunately, I would not get too excited about that one.  It won't be easy, but put some time in and you never know.

Drew 49 degrees North with 3 pts.   My 4th choice, but what the heck should be fun.  Anyone got any hot tips for that unit?

What I don't like about the Lincoln hunt is that only Weyerhaeuser is open. No state land. I don't understand why the state land isn't open. Not that there aren't bears on Weyerhaeuser, there are. We went out a couple years ago in the spring and saw bear tracks right on the side of the road.

I wouldn't see why not.....electronic calling is fine and I've never heard anything about a decoy being illegal. That would be pretty cool.....maybe even see if you can find a bear cub decoy and use some distress sounds. You get that done and a boar comes in you would be having a pucker factor of 10.

Only hunted three days so far.  Stayed monday night and hit it pretty hard till 1:00 pm on tues.  No sightings.  Seen a grouse.  lol.  Ill be back down there soon and i can only call by mouth for fifteen minutes or so.  I need a fox pro bad.  fun trip with the old lady though.  I found a few good areas to glass and even call from.  Ill check back here to post pics of a dead bear.  Congrats to all who have filled there spring tag and good luck to those that haven't.

Hunted Eight differnt trips now.  Still have yet to even put eyes on a bear.  But it's nice to get out early.  Got the kid out with me a few times now.  Yesterday he found the first fresh peel I've seen all year.  He seems to see more sign than me.  Lol.  I have walked spurs I have checked up top in the cuts.  I have walked in the closed gates I called from a few different ridges and still can't lay the hammer down on one.  I've been bringing the 30/30 lever gun.  I will probably get in there two more days before the season ends but so far no luck with this tag.  I know how quick that could change so I stay optimistic.  My son did pick up a tick though.  That sucked.  Creepy little buggers.  We got it out.  But not without a few tears from the little guy.  Probably due to my reaction more than anything.  Congrats to all who filled there tags.
