I'm getting ready to purchase the Washington and probably Idaho map. Quick question first. Does anyone know why the download version is $10 more then the sd card version?

Just got it this year for Washington and absoulutely love it.  The bonus for me is I own a couple of 20 acre lots in eastern washington and my family owns a few more, this map shows the property boundaries well enough that we can find the boundary stakes without having to pay a surveyor.  This software is awesome and they have updates every so oftern to update land ownership changes.

I would highly recomend this to anyone that hunts.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I bought a chip yesterday, updated it today and found out it still doesn't show up to date lot ownership in my neighborhood.   It also has an area of WDFW land (very small parcel) shown as private with no named ownership.

This is in the Moses Lake area.   Your results may vary.

I decided to purchase the download version. I then found my house on the map and it still has the previous owner listed as the current owner  :bash: now I'm a little nervous about how up to date the map is. I've owned my house for over a year and the bank owned it for a year before that. Which means (for my house at least) it's over 2 years behind... I hope i'm worrying over nothing...

 :yeah:

I found it is not all that current.  I also found that it does not show very many roads in my hunting area....matter of fact it shows almost none of the roads.  Kinda disappointed in that aspect.  I actually use my free downloaded map more and it is as good if not better than the $100 maps in question.

I do like it for the State and Federal Land boundaries though.

From their website:

SD vs. Download
2 Ways to Order
1. Pre-Loaded microSD/SD card - Simply plug card into your GPS and go

microSD/SD card Advantages

Very Easy to use! Simply plug the memory card into the memory card slot on your GPS and go.
No downloading software and messing with the computer.
The microSD can also be used to view the map on your computer through Garmin's BaseCamp software (for Advanced Users).  View the map on your computer to help find areas to hunt or scout before you hit the ground.
microSD/SD card Disadvantages
Some GPS units don't take microSD or SD cards, so you will have to use the download version.

2. Download Version - View Maps on your Computer for trip planning and scouting, then send maps to your GPS or your own SD card

Download Version Advantages
Download version allows you to view the map on the computer then send the map to a GPS. View the map on your computer to help find areas to hunt or scout before you hit the ground.
Updating your map is faster. Simply download the new version of the map from our website and install it on your GPS.
Download Version Disadvantages
Downloading and installing all the maps and necessary software can be difficult and time-consuming.
For Advanced Users only
High Speed Internet required for these large file downloads

Yeah, I've been looking at it more. Mainly looking at my families land. Land that hasn't changed hands in a long time and that I'm very familiar with the boundaries and who owns what. I'm finding it isn't as current or as accurate as I would have thought. Which makes me nervous to trust it in areas I'm not so familiar with... which is what I bought it for :bash:. Oh well it's still useful I'll just have to verify as much as possible.

Have you tried GPSFileDepot  http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/wa  ?  They have a western ownership map for free download.  It's not as up to date and accurate as huntinggpsmaps but hey its free and it works well enough for the areas I hunt.

I assume you have the most current version but would check that first.

Next I would contact the company and ask them where they get data for that county.

They are a good company and should give you a straight answer.,

Yeah I bought the download version and after seeing the discrepency with my property I check to see if it need to be updated but there were no updates. As far as my families property... nothing has changed in 15 years so updates shouldn't even be needed and there are some HUGE discrepencies that are flat out wrong and not just little errors. We are talking quarter-quarter section sized areas. I'm sure that 99 % of their information is correct and that it is a great product but after seeing that the properties I know about being incorrect it makes it sort of difficult to have faith to rely on it for any property I don't know about.

How do know it is 99% accurate?

What did they say when you pointed out the disrepancies to them?

I would assume that all the land owner info comes from the office of the assessor for each county. It's probably the counties who haven't updated their info regularly and not gpshuntingmaps.

That is my suspicion but would like to confirm.

I don't know that it is. I just don't want to bad mouth them. I was just saying I'm sure they are fairly accurate for the most part. I haven't contacted them yet because I'm at my parents right now.
