2000 gmc Sierra 2500 with 6.0 vortec
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:58:25 AM »
I have a chance to buy a 2000 Sierra 3/4 ton with a 6.0 vortec and a very good price well under blue book. However I know nothing about the reliability of this year or the 6.0. I would also like to know what kind of fuel mileage you guys are getting with these trucks. By the way it's a short bed extended cab with 124k on it

Not as bad as the 8.1 liter.  :chuckle: Still nothing to jump for joy over. Buddy in Eburg gets 12-14 mixed driving. :o

I have an 03' chevy crew hd with the 6.0 liter and I love the motor. Not great gas mileage but that is not why I bought the truck.

The 6.0 is still used in the HD trucks. They've proven to be very durable.

Sir, that is one of the best truck/engine combos you can find.  I have the 2001 heavy half ton GMC with that motor.  I wanted a diesel but my wife doesn't like the noise, so she found this at a dealer online 2 years ago.  I'm not tickled about the mileage as I only get what has been described on here.  But the power!  It's not a Duramax, but she can pull.  But it is used in Vette's also.  Mine seems to be a great truck.  Or I should say my wife has a great truck she lets me borrow.  Buying it used cost me about a quarter of a new truck which should get me a lot of gas to hunt and tow with.

I have a 99 with a 6.0. No complaints here, I have put it threw the paces and it has held up fine.
Everything else has been mentioned.
