Repairing a chipped stock
« on: April 04, 2013, 02:10:54 PM »
Any suggestions on how to repair a chipped stock like this one.  The chip goes through the wood and butt plate – it’s a vintage 1950 Rem 870 Wingmaster

If you don't have the broken piece you have two choices.  Scrounge up another piece of walnut and glue it on or reshape the stock from the pistol grip back(to keep a straight line) to elliminate the chipped portion.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I took the stock off of mine.  Used a belt sander to smooth it out.  Then glued the new piece down and sanded it to perfection, then re-finished the stock.  Watch the grains so they are running in the same direction.  Option two is to look on e-bay for a new foregrip and stock or just the stock.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
