So what is a Good Price for Ammo?

Just talking to a buddy who is having trouble finding ammo. What do you think a good price for ammo is under todays conditions?

Can't speak for all of the ammo listed but;

9mm:  Anything less than $20 / 50 round box.  Found some the other day for $16 / box fmj 50 rounds. 
.22: Is going as low as $23 for a brick to as high as $80 plus / brick.  I would not pay more than $50 / brick.
.17 hmr:  you can find it on sale all day long for $10/box of 50.  Full price is $13-$18/box of 50 depending on make.  I have seen no shortage of .17 hmr.

Ammo and component prices are still up over the overage. People who purchased 6 months or so ago or earlier. We're well prepared, depends on what someone's willing to pay at the current time. I know someone that currently has a 100,000 rounds plus on hand of assorted ammunition and is moving it as quick as the next shipment rotates in. It would flat shock people at what he has profited in the last 60 days(Flat shock!) It's a super hot commodity acr
oss the nation right now. People want it no matter what and they will pay what ever the price. Anything you have firearms wise is Frikn worthless if you can't feed it.

Agree with you Jreb.In my network, outside of my store, see a lot of guys helping each other and keeping people supplied. When I see stores selling, say, m8o ball 7.62 for $1.40 a round, makes me cringe. But if people are willing to pay that? Let em..there is supply and demand and what the market will bear, then theres the un-informed buying and paying out of fear..either way, well, this IS still America, isnt it! :-)

Have been getting steady supply of 380, 38, 410, and cowboy 45. The 9 and 22 are a little more sporadic..Keeping what I can on the shelves! :-)

.410 shotshells (birdshot hunting shells) if you can get them around $10-12 a box is a good price.

45 colt (real loads not cowboy mouse farts), if i can find it for about or less than $0.75/round i will pick up a box

Good luck.  Wait it out, keeping checking the stores and with friends.
Do not and I do not support the "flippers".  It's not capitolism, it's scalping, and we're are literally shooting ourselves in the foot by succumbing to these people.
If you can't find ammo at the store, then don't shoot.  Easy peasy. 
I mean "holy crap" there on people on GunBroker paying or willing to pay $175 for 1500 rounds of Rem. Bulk .22 ammo. 
If we stop buying from unscrupulous sellers, maybe we can see the store shelves slowly start to fill back up. 
Just think about it for a bit.

Bought 50 fmj 124 grain 9mm shells from big R for 17 bucks. They were American Eagle. I thought it was fair

Fair enough. The people paying the prices aren't necessarily morons. They could just be in a bad spot, but the people buying up all available stock and scalping people will get no compliments from me.

Lots of 308 ball at $180/200. Some place are up to $1.20/round!

Ammo is where the big $$$$$ is at right now, moving it in volume, all day every day. Also if you plan on getting rid of some P-Mags dump them now MagPuls about to flood the market with Gen 2's.

I must admit, my local shop has had ammo in on a "regular" basis. It hasn't gouged that much, knowing that even they are paying higher prices at wholesale. I know of a shop back in Eastern Wa that is selling 9mm for $50 for 50 rounds and they are barely keeping it on the shelves. I personally wouldn't pay that price for 9mm. The hardest ammo for me to find at "reasonable" prices is 22 lr and .223

People new to shooting may not have built up any kind of stock prior to this nonsense, they would be in a bad spot, and forced to pay what the current market demands.

People with some sort of surplus can wait out the market a bit, and buy at more sane prices, instead of giving in to obscene pricing. The prices will not go down as long as people are willing, or in some cases, forced to pay them. I choose not to pay the current prices.

That was me, new, just got my CPL and gun - signed up for beginners handgun class that requires you to bring your own ammo and had NO idea how much ammo costs. Started paying upwards of almost $30 for a 50 round box of 9mm >_< just because that's all I could find. LUCKILY for me I found someone nice on here in the classified that sold me some ammo for a great normal price so I can take my classes now.
