What is a good utilitarian carry gun?

Used, LE turn-in stainless SW revolver is the best/first choice.
Used, LE turn-in Glock if that's your thing.

I carry a Taurus Ti Tracker in 45acp on my hip because I didn't want to slide down the mountiain on my SW 686.
Excellent open-carry piece..Light, weatherproof, and accurate.
Cost me less than a Ruger, but I can't anchor my boat with it

I've had Glock 10mm, a couple of Kimber 1911 45s, currently carry XD 40, 4 in.
Love them all.
The XD fits my hand better then any others so far.

Thanks for the replies, revolver is kinda what i was thinking all along but i will give the glocks a look, hopefully norpoint has a few and i can shoot them.
Want to keep weight down and profile, i had thought of picking up a used Hipower or even a Kimber of another 1911 but dont want the weight. I already have a few of those but in real good condition.
The small frame (j frame) smiths are too small for my hands as is the ruger lcp...My other half has both and i hate them for me.

Buck....from just having been to Norpoint I can tell you.....they have a pretty decent selection of range guns. GLocks, M&P's, XD's...all in far better condition that I expected.

How about the ruger lcr in 38 or 357?  I beat the junk out of mine and it fits I'm my pocket no problem

The Ruger SP101s are a good choice, a little thinner profile then the Ruger GP100s. Nice quality built handgun in stainless steel. I have the GP 100 - 357 mag with a 6" barrel. I want to get a SP101 in 357 mag and 22LR. I just picked up a Ruger Redhawk 44 mag.
 The SP101 357mag with a four inch barrel would be a concealable handgun and a pleasure to shoot.
