Scouting?
« on: April 19, 2013, 04:48:04 PM »
When you ask people what to do when you first start hunting they usually tell you to go and scout. What exactly does scouting mean, I know it means to go out in the woods and look around. But, what else? How can you tell the animals are there?

scouting the act of being in the woods learning the lay of the land, the patterns of the animals, the sounds, the smells, the traffic.... and then there is learning the finer points like the ins and outs of animal poop....poop is your friend and it tells you which animals are coming and going what they are eating when they were there...... finding travel routes of animals and people and cattle if on the eastside..... its the act of discovering there are deer everywhere and elk they are like fricking rats until the season opens at which point only those deer and elk you cannot shoot will be like rats with paranoia ....its wearing out a pair of boots walking.....getting blisters, splinters, running into darn devils club in the westside and some thorny plant on the east..... its sunburn and wind and rain and snow and mud and dirt....its just one more hill, one more bend, one more bottom.....that in a nutshell is scouting, I have perfected this now some day before I die I just might perfect the art of killing something....good luck happy hunting
