Drew any season deer and elk...now what?
« on: April 20, 2013, 10:50:22 AM »
Drew both deer and elk any multi hunts.....
If I don't want to pick up the deer multi, do I get those points returned?
I see a lot of recommendations to put in for a special permit as well, does a multi tag give me an advantage in certain areas.
I just love to hit the hills when I have time, prefer archery, but muzzy is good, modern has too many other hunters around for me too enjoy. I haven't shot at anything for years, this year I may want to harvest something for jerky, and I would love to take my kids out first time, this season.
ideas?
(please no snotty remarks, I scout a lot (20 days), and hunt when I can (4 days) I have favorite areas that produce like clockwork, I often get too far back in the hills and pass on shooting because of the work it would take, come home and grill a ribeye, good day hunting.) thx

Don't worry about the deer multi permit.  Won't really matter that you lose the points since they always have more permits available than people that apply (so having a point doesn't matter).

K,  so if I don't buy the deer tag, the points return?

I am mapping out dates and areas all day.

no need for a special permit, multi should give me plenty of days to wander around.

You used your points when you drew. They dont re- appear.

I also dont understand why people apply for permits without understanding the permit process or have a plan of what to do when/ if drawn.

I drew because I wanted to have the most days avail for me to hunt, no matter what the animal...

I was asking if there was an advantage because it seems others have mentioned," the next step would be..." and,  "I would put in for a certain permit..."  I was wondering if there was an advantage of having a multi and then put in for another draw...

So sorry to offend your precious sensibility with my questions. Obviously if I would have asked you first, then I would not need any other opinions or advice.

It's complicated, for some......

Good luck with your dilemma.
And you do lose your points even if don't pull the trigger on the deer multi buy.
Concentrate on elk would be my  :twocents:

The advantage of the multi elk is that you can apply for any permits statewide and any weapon choice. Ie a westside archery quality and a eastside muzzy quality of you want. Or just hunt any general season either side. Maybe it will help you increase days afield?
Also never pass a shot because its too much work! Especially elk! It builds character and makes great stories!
