Hunted around the house near Hunters and found a few Toms (shot this one opening afternoon) , but I was most impressed with the amount of bearded hens we saw this year. Didn't keep exact count, but had to have been over a dozen including a couple with beards at least 8". They were definitely hens as we were very close to most (about twenty feet from a group of three hens which were all bearded!!). Like most bearded hens the the beards were fairly wispy, but I was surprised at the length on some. I had no desire to shoot any of them, even thought I realize with visible beards they were legal. Curious if anyone else ran into an inordinate amount of bearded hens this year? Could have taken another Tom or two but after filling my two tags last year on the opener and the day after, I decided to stretch the season out this year. Overall seemed to be a lot less birds this year and none at all in some of the usual places.
