according to the Small Game, furbearers, and unclassified species doc I downloaded off the washingtons fish and wild life site coyote are unclasified and can be hunted and trapped year around. now weather you can shoot them with a air rifle is another question i have not determined that yet.

I don't shoot things I don't think are going to taste good has anyone eaten a Coyote

update: just found this on washingtons fish and wildlife web page

To hunt unclassified wildlife, you need a valid big game or small game license. You can hunt unclassified wildlife year round with no bag limit and with any weapon. For instance, you can legally hunt unclassified wildlife with an air rifle.

It is completely legal to take a coyote with an air rifle...as the regs specify any weapon. The definition of weapon is as follows. And im pretty sure the game department isnt gonna give two phucks about yotes as long as you have a valid license.....wanna try taking one with a .177 however i know as an avid outdoorsman id rather use something more powerful.

The Lewis and Clark expedition had a .46 caliber Girandoni Air Rifle that they used with great effect on deer, bear, men, and probably some coyotes.  “Modern” powerful air rifles have been around for quite a while.
