Looking at hunting timberland SW WA for Rosies, or Rocky Mountain in Idaho (3.5 hour hike in country)
Which would you do and why?

Thanks

I have hunted Idaho many times archery only.  Most the helping comments are on target.  If I was you I would give the Idaho hunt a go.  Please be aware there are areas in Idaho that are as thick as they are on the West Side of Washington and there are some open areas as well.  I would suggest you go to Idaho and have fun.  Put in your time on the phone talking to the experts or email to get a good location.  For your first trip...

Aron Snyder threatened to "beat you into the ground like a fence post".

I'll make the first donation into the hat to get that project underway :chuckle:

Okay, I'll never claim to be as smart as Billdo.  However, I have hunted elk in wolf country so I can at least claim some real world knowledge on the subject, not just what I've read.

For John and others wanting to hunt elk in wolf country.  If you don't see or hear elk, and you are not finding fresh elk sign, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!  How many times do people have to reinvent the wheel here?  Elk move, particularly when they are harassed or pressured.  Anyone that has hunted for very long knows full well that a basin containing 100 elk on one day can be devoid of elk the next.  So why would you keep hunting there if they are no longer there?

Wolves move elk just like human hunters do.  If all of a sudden you aren't seeing, hearing, smelling elk there is a good reason why.  They are no longer there.  Obviously in brushy and dense country this can pose some challenges, but elk are vocal in the dark.  Even when it's blistering hot and dry, they are still vocal at night the majority of the time.

I'm not some genius, and no magazines are ringing my phone off the hook asking for articles, but this is what I have learned through real world experience, hunting in wolf county.  Take it for what it's worth, and what you paid for it.

Rock on Billdo.

Im not stirring the pot that just sounds stupid... I think im going to stick to RokSlide because those guys actually have common sense

I gave you the benefit of the doubt but you have confirmed you are a derelict.  I wish I had the BAN button because you would be gone.  You derail a ton of topics when people are seeking advice.  Good thing is you have lost so much credibility no one listens to you anyways.

I hope the mods on here hold you to your word billdo. Your info is so far from factual that you not only do not contribute anything, but you might actually be steering new hunters in the complete wrong direction. Which is a violation of the rules of this forum. I'm with JP on this one. Dont let the door hit ya.

Billdo and I had about a week long conversation through PM's and I actually started to feel bad for the kid. He's a pretty good guy but he's just got a big chip on his shoulder for some reason? I guess killing 9 deer and an elk or two is a big deal to him?

I really hope they don't 86 him from here because I think reading peoples comments about him are pretty amusing. It's kinda like him not being original in his retorts, he just needs some constructive critisism to figure it out and blossum.
