First Scouting Trip of the Year
« on: May 12, 2013, 08:26:03 AM »
Finally got to do some scouting in the area I hunt for deer. Last year I got started late on scouting and I didn't want to make the same mistake this year. My big dilemma this year is which area to hunt...... I have my old spot where I have seen a lot of animals mostly does but a lot, but it also has a lot of hunters and I don't like rubbing elbows with bubba. The new spot I am looking at is much more isolated. There are only two ways in, wither a 4 mile death march up the side of a mountain, or a 2 mile hike through the devils own pucker brush. I am seriously considering spending my memorial day weekend just clearing a hidden trail to the spot. There is also a third spot that is even more remote and a much harder hike, but my father couldn't do it so its probably out of the running. But it is such beautiful country!!! Probably not enough information for a decision yet, but I do like the idea of having a hunting spot away from other hunters. What do you guys think? By the way this is up in the Larch Mountain area.

So other than complaining about the beautiful hiking I did yesterday  :chuckle:  This is going to be our first year of muzzleloader hunting and I was wondering how the deer behavior changes? Since its warmer do they stay in the shade more? and closer to water sources?

Oh last question if you are on Gifford Pinchot land do you need a discovery pass? And what if you are driving through DNR land to get to Gifford Pinchot?

Thanks guys hope you are getting out and enjoying this weather too!!!!
